Lakewood Theatre Co Hosts Auditions For BOEING-BOEING 2/19

Lakewood Theatre Company will be having open auditions on SATURDAY, FEB. 19, 2011 for the recent Broadway comedy, Boeing-Boeing, directed by Alan Shearman. Call 503-635-3901 to reserve an audition slot.

The director is seeking: 2 men, ages 30s-40s; 3 women, ages 20s-30s; and 1 woman age 40-50s. All roles receive remuneration.

Audition Location: Lakewood Theatre Company at Lakewood Center for the Arts, 368 S. State Street in Lake Oswego.

Performance Schedule: July 8 - August 21, 2011 (Thurs-Sat at 7:30 PM, some Sundays at 7:00 PM and some Sunday matinees at 2:00 PM). Lakewood Theatre Company features an intimate 220-seat theatre located at Lakewood Center for the Arts, 368 S. State Street in Lake Oswego.

About the Play: Bernard, an American businessman living in Paris, smoothly juggles love affairs with three air hostesses (as they were called back in the 60s), who touch down briefly but amorously in his apartment between flights. There's Janet, the stunning American stewardess from PanAm; Jacqueline, the sexy French stewardess from Air France; and Judith, the passionate German dominatrix stewardess from Lufthansa. Thanks to Bernard's keen study of flight schedules and the efficiency of his grumbling French housekeeper, Bertha, his three mistresses have no clue of one another's existence. But when Bernard's old school-pal Robert arrives from the Boonies, things get bumpy. Schedule changes, flight delays and chaos ensue in this hysterical, high-flying fiancée-fueled fiasco!

Additional Information:
Boeing-Boeing is a classic farce written by French playwright Marc Camoletti. The English language adaptation, translated by Beverley Cross, was first staged in London at the Apollo Theatre in 1962 and transferred to the Duchess Theatre in 1965, running for a total of seven years. In 1991, the play was listed in the Guinness Book of Records as the most performed French play throughout the world.

In 2008 Boeing-Boeing was revived on Broadway. The cast featured Christine Baranski, Mark Rylance, Bradley Whitford, Gina Gershon, Mary McCormack and Kathryn Hahn. The production won the Best Revival of a Play and Rylance won the Tony Award for Best Leading Actor. The play also received the Drama Desk Award for Outstanding Revival of a Play, and Mark Rylance won for lead actor in a play.

... Bernard: (Early-30s - Early 40s) Handsome, energetic, flirtatious and charming. Completely satisfied and confident with his situation.
... Robert: (Early-30s - Early 40s) Naïve to the romantic side of life. He's from Wisconsin/Eastern Oregon, etc. where life is a lot slower. Dweeby.
... Jacqueline: (Mid 20s - Mid 30s) Sentimental, lusty and French. Very smart and suspicious. (N.B. CAN be Italian, Spanish, Scandinavian)
... Janet: (Mid 20s - Mid 30s) Take-charge, health-obsessed American. Very much a cheerleader rather than an air hostess but definitely brings new meaning to in-flight service with a smile. (N.B. COULD BE BRITISH)
... Judith: (Mid 20s - Mid 30s) the dominating militant German. Her lower register would scare any man into marrying herŠ Not to mention her passion. The more extreme the German accent the better!
... Bertha: (40s-50s) Taciturn, no-nonsense, gruff, bully housekeeper who loves nothing more than to complain.

Special note: The ability to speak in European accents (French, German, Spanish, Italian, Scandinavian, etc.) is essential for the women in this show
