Waiting for Westy is an immersive drama from Yellow Bicycle Collective, plunging audiences into the tense, fractured world of a South Philadelphia VFW post on October 26, 1987. On the day their war memorial is to be dedicated, three Vietnam veterans learn that their former commanding officer, General William Westmoreland, intends to visit — and are forced to reckon with their feelings about the war, its leaders, and one another. Audiences experience the story immersively, the action moving seamlessly between the theater and a working bar, where the main character serves drinks to the cast and audience alike. By turns funny, tense, and deeply human, the play explores the rifts that run even among those who served together. Written and directed by award-winning playwright Joshua Crone (A Marine Walks Up to the Pearly Gates), Waiting for Westy runs as part of the 2026 Philadelphia Fringe Festival.
