Four boats. One river. One big big canyon. MEN ON BOATS is a true(ish) history based on the journal of one-armed adventurer Maj. John Wesley Powell and his 1869 expedition to chart the course of the Colorado River. Backhaus script calls for a cast of racially diverse actors who are female-identifying, trans-identifying, genderfluid, and/or non-gender-conforming who bring modern vernacular to 19th century sensibilities, creating a deeply humorous and lacerating critique of the machismo mythology that surrounds adventurous feats in history.
