Quintessence Presents Shakespeare's VENUS & ADONIS, 4/5-7

By:

Quintessence Theatre Group celebrates its second birthday with a special recitation of Shakespeare's erotic poem VENUS AND ADONIS with Josh Carpenter, Joy Farmer-Clary and Connor Hammond, April 5th – 7th at the Sedgwick Theater. To purchase tickets, visit www.QuintessenceTheatre.org or call 1.877.238.5596.

Loosely inspired by Ovid's Metamorphoses, the poem VENUS AND ADONIS is Shakespeare's most erotic verse. In this titillating oral exploration of love, beauty, and sensuality, the lusty Venus seduces the young hunter Adonis. Despite her best attempts with words, kisses, and tears, the mortal Adonis prefers the thrill of the hunt over the fruits offered by the goddess. Venus warns the precocious Adonis of the danger in hunting wild beasts, but he escapes her grasp, ignores her warning, and is killed by a wild boar. Venus is left to mourn the perfection of man, now dead, having never consummated her desire.

This special recitation will bring back Quintessence favorites Josh Carpenter (Quintessence's Henry V, The Importance of Being Earnest, The Merchant of Venice, The Venetian Twins) as The Poet, Joy Farmer-Clary (Quintessence's Measure for Measure) as Venus, and Connor Hammond (Henry V) as Adonis.

VENUS AND ADONIS will take place on Thursday, April 5th at 7pm, Friday, April 6th at 8pm and Saturday, April 7th at 8pm. Thursday is a special benefit performance for Quintessence Theatre Group. All tickets are $60. Tickets for the regular performances on Friday and Saturday are $15. There are $10 industry and student rush tickets available at the box office one hour before the performance. To purchase tickets visit www.QuintessenceTheatre.org, or call 1.877.238.5596. For information on any of the performances or above events please email BoxOffice@QuintessenceTheatre.org.
