GLACIER To Be Performed By JCWK Dance Lab At The Lancaster Fringe Fest
The 22-minute show at Tellus 360 features music by composer Marty Bonk and a post-show talkback.
Glacier is JCWK Dance Lab's latest research exploring interconnectedness through STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts, and math). The Berks-based, contemporary dance company travels to Lancaster for the inaugural Lancaster Fringe Fest.
In slow motion, dancers shift, slide, and glide over each others' bodies, a morphing conglomerate of limbs, heads, and torsos. Staccato isolations pierce tableaus and break visual silence embodying the fractures between science and our social climate. "We explored visual and aural experiences of glaciers and embodied calving, crashing, and melting," director Jessica Warchal-King said in reflection of the process of research and collaboration with JCWK Dance Lab artists, composer Marty Bonk, and climate change scientists. The musical collaboration is supported by The Reading Musical Foundation.
Performances for the festival will run Thursday, May 21 - Sunday May 24. Glacier will be performed at Tellus 360 on Friday, May 22 at 7:15pm and Sunday, May 24 at 1pm. The 22-minute contemporary dance performance will be followed by a talkback with the artists.
Over 60 performances and exhibits are peppered throughout 20 venues in downtown Lancaster. Tickets for each show in the Lancaster Fringe Fest are "pay what you decide" and can be purchased at the Lancaster Fringe Festival's website.
