ANNIE GET YOUR GUN to Include Free Student Performance at Act II Playhouse

Act II Playhouse will host students from Mercy Career and Technical School for a special student matinee performance of “Annie Get Your Gun.”

The performance is part of a multi-year collaboration with The Connelly Foundation to present live theatre to underserved area schools.

The performance is scheduled for 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, June 9, 2026.

“Annie Get Your Gun” features music and lyrics by Irving Berlin, original book by Dorothy and Herbert Fields, and was revised by Peter Stone.

Over 100 students from Mercy Career and Technical School will attend the performance of the classic musical that is celebrating its 80th anniversary this year. Immediately following the performance, the cast and crew will participate in a talkback with the students.

“The opportunity to host student performances at the Playhouse is incredibly special,” said Act II Playhouse Artistic Director, Tony Braithwaite. “We are so glad to expose these students to the wonderful world of theatre and the arts. Just as crucially, we at the Playhouse benefit from the students' experience too. The energy students bring to the theatre is infectious for the cast, crew, and everyone on staff.”

The June performance is the third occasion that students from Mercy Career and Technical School have had to see a show at Act II Playhouse.

Earlier in the Playhouse's 2025-2026 Season, Mercy students attended special performances of “Theatre People” and the Pulitzer Prize-winning drama, “Proof.”

“The students' reaction to the shows in our intimate theatre have been electric,” said Braithwaite. “The actors on stage have called the experience of performing for these student groups at Act II the most rewarding of their career.”

According to Howie Brown, President of Mercy Career and Technical School, these special shows have had a tremendous impact on students outside of the theatre.

Just this year, they founded their own theatre club and orchestrated a “Night of Scenes” performance at the school.

Student performances at Act II Playhouse are made possible by a generous contribution from The Connelly Foundation who strives to “improve the quality of life in the Philadelphia region by supporting charitable organizations in education, human services, arts and culture, and civic life that strengthen resilience and help people to flourish.”

“Act II is indebted to The Connelly Foundation for making all of this possible,” said Braithwaite. “Their generosity allows the Playhouse to create these wonderful opportunities for students at no cost. We are honored that we can help make a real difference in students' lives with The Connelly Foundations' incredible support.”

Performances of “Annie Get Your Gun” run through June 28 at Act II Playhouse. Tickets are available online (act2.org), by phone (215.654.0200), and in person at the Playhouse Box Office.
