3Arts, the Chicago-based nonprofit grantmaking organization, is honored to award 20 Chicago artists with unrestricted grants at the 11th annual 3Arts Awards Celebration, taking place tonight, November 5 at the Museum of Contemporary Art. The Classical Boom Tour takes center stage as Black Violin returns to the Van Wezel Performing Arts Hall on Tuesday, November 27 at 7:30 p.m. Florida natives Wil Baptiste (viola) and Kev Marcus (violin) combine their classical training and hip-hop influences to create a distinctive multi-genre sound. NPR praised the duo and their recent album, saying "their music will keep classical music alive for the next generation."
Netflix to Produce Animated Musical Film Based on the Life of Wyclef Jean

Netflix announced today that it is working with musical visionary Wyclef Jean on a CG animated feature film that reimagines his life story. Stampede, the recently launched entertainment media company from Greg Silverman, is partnering with the three-time Grammy Award-winning musician to produce the feature film, which will be written by Justin Marks (The Jungle Book, Counterpart). The film will be based on the real-life story of Jean's childhood in Haiti.

The South by Southwest® Music Festival (SXSW®) has announced the initial list of Showcasing Artists invited to perform at the 2019 event. Each year, the festival hosts a curated mix of up-and-coming and legendary artists from around the world, performing in intimate clubs as well as renowned music venues. This special concert celebration will feature Sarah Dash singing All The Great Aretha Franklin Classics (including Respect, Chain Of Fools, Freeway Of Love, Ain't No Way, Jump To It), and telling inside stories of her friendship with The Queen. Bernard Purdy, who played in Ms. Franklin's band through the years, will be the musical director for Ms. Dash for these performances.

The GRAMMY Museum Experience Prudential Center, in association with the New Jersey Performing Arts Center (NJPAC), will launch a new program series this fall, beginning with “An Evening With Lenny Kravitz,” a four-time GRAMMY® winner, on Sept. 18, 2018, in NJPAC's Victoria Theater in Newark, N.J. The program will feature a conversation between the iconic rock musician and special guest moderator, five-time GRAMMY winner Questlove about the creation and inspiration behind Kravitz's new release, Raise Vibration. The series will continue with “An Evening With Wyclef Jean,” a three-time GRAMMY winner and founding member of the New Jersey-based Fugees Oct.16, 2018.
