D.C. Jazz Artist Curtis Ostle to Release Debut Album NO MIND
by Kaitlin Milligan
- Nov 6, 2018
OneTrickDog* Records is pleased to announce the release of No Mind, jazz bassist and composerCurtis Ostle's debut album. No Mind, Ostle's first CD as bandleader, is comprised of all original music written as reflections on the years he spent living and traveling Asia and the Eastern United States. Ostle views this time as a period of great change and musical growth, the most dramatic change coming with the birth of his daughter, Lia, the inspiration for the hard-swinging 'Lia's Song.' The tracks exploit Ostle's rich sonic textures, mixing acoustic instruments with synths and vocals. His expressive style features “intoxicating, hummable melodic phrases” (Mike West Washington DC City Paper) and his signature plush grooves. The music channels such greats as Charles Mingus and Thad Jones, but tracks like 'Ruminations' and 'No Mind' also follow a darker, more modern, through-composed approach.
