Sardi’s To Close Temporarily As Shubert Organization Acquires Theatre District Landmark

Sardi’s, the historic Theatre District restaurant known for its celebrity caricatures, will temporarily close for renovations after being acquired by the Shubert Organization. The landmark venue is expected to reopen later this year with upgrades to infrastructure and new management. The restaurant has served as a central hub for the Broadway community since 1927.

National Museum of Patriotism Awards Sardi's Restaurant

The National Museum of Patriotism, a nonprofit research center for exploring the development of patriotism through educational displays and exhibits, founded in July 2004 in Atlanta, GA, will present its Patriotism Award to the legendary Sardi's Restaurant in New York City at a special ceremony at the restaurant on Tuesday, December 18, at 2PM. The award will be accepted by Sean Ricketts, great grandson of Sardi's founder Vincent Sardi, Sr.

Sardi's Vincent Sardi Jr., Passes Away at 91

Vincent Sardi Jr., who owned and managed Sardi's restaurant, his father's theater-district landmark, for more than half a century and became, by wide agreement, the unofficial mayor of Broadway, died today at a hospital in Berlin, Vt. He was 91 and had lived nearby in Warren, Vt., since retiring in 1997.
