Music Mountain to Welcome Peter Serkin, Julia Hsu & More, 7/9-10

Music Mountain, America's oldest continuing summer chamber music festival, continues its 87th Anniversary Season with a benefit concert featuring legendary pianist Peter Serkin and rising star Julia Hsu performing a special program on Sunday, July 10 (3pm); Piano 4 Hands will highlight Bach, Bizet, Brahms, and Mozart. The dynamic Vince Giordano & The Nighthawks return for another summer playing the best of 1920s and '30s jazz on Saturday, July 9 (6:30pm). The summer will feature 15 weekends of incredible music including returning favorite chamber ensembles and musicians (pianists Peter Serkin and Julia Hsu), first-time guests (pianist Richard Goode), the ever-popular Saturday Evening Twilight Series, featuring an array of Jazz ensembles and musicians, including the artists of the Catskill Jazz Factory, and the second season of the Music Mountain Master Classes for Young Artists plus so much more! See why the New Yorker called Music Mountain 'The Summer Shrine of the String Quartet.' Concerts are scheduled through September 11.

Judy Garland Talk & Concert Set for Northeast Harbor Library, 6/29

Award-winning music producer, critic and translator Lawrence Schulman will give a talk on Judy Garland, entitled 'Moments of Magic,' at the Northeast Harbor Library (Maine) on Wednesday, June 29, 2016 at 5 P.M. Admission is free. The one-and-a-quarter hour talk will examine Judy Garland's life and career, and feature nine audio-video clips, to be followed by a question and answer. Schulman will endeavor to answer the question: 'If I had just one hour to convince you of Judy Garland's place in classic American popular music, what film and television performances would I choose?' The talk will be followed by a mini-concert of songs Garland sang by famed jazz vocalist Diane Linscott and the equally renowned pianist Scott Cleveland.

Spend the 4th of July weekend at America's oldest continuing summer chamber music festival, Music Mountain, when its 87th Anniversary Season continues with the young ensemble Cantata Profana on Sunday, July 3rd (3PM) performing Beethoven and Schubert. Saturday, July 2 (6:30pm) brings Swingtime Big Band back for their ninth season playing the best of the Swing Era! The summer will feature 15 weekends of incredible music including returning favorite chamber ensembles and musicians (pianists Peter Serkin and Julia Hsu), first-time guests (pianist Richard Goode), the ever-popular Saturday Evening Twilight Series, featuring an array of Jazz ensembles and musicians, including the artists of the Catskill Jazz Factory, and the second season of the new Music Mountain Master Classes for Young Artists plus so much more! Music Mountain, America's oldest continuing summer chamber music festival, continues its 87th Anniversary Season with the acclaimed Borromeo String Quartet on Sunday, June 12th (3PM) performing a program of Bach, Ravel, and Beethoven. This weekend also marks the start of the popular Saturday Evening Twilight Series (6:30pm). Connecticut's favorite jazz band, The Galvanized Jazz Band opens the series! The summer will feature 15 weekends of incredible music including returning favorite chamber ensembles and musicians, first-time guests, the ever-popular Saturday Evening Twilight Series, featuring an array of Jazz ensembles and musicians, including the incredibly talented artists of the Catskill Jazz Factory, and the second season of the new Music Mountain Master Classes for Young Artists plus so much more! Last night, May 2, 2016, The New York Pops celebrated its 33rd birthday with a grand gala evening celebrating the revolutionary collaborations of Alain Boublil and Claude-Michel Schonberg, the songwriting team behind LES MISERABLES, Miss Saigon, and more. Marcus Goldhaber Celebrates Sinatra in FREE & EASY: LIVIN' ON SWING STREET in Milford Tonight

Direct from 'Broadway's supper club,' 54 Below, acclaimed NYC jazz vocalist-songwriter and two-time 2015 Best Male Vocalist nominee Marcus Goldhaber hosts a Sinatra Centennial Celebration in the Connecticut debut of his new show, 'FREE & EASY: LIVIN' ON SWING STREET,' at Milford Arts Council Center for the Arts in Milford, CT tonight, March 5.

Cortland Repertory Theatre to Present SWEET, SINATRA...AND ALL THAT JAZZ

Cortland Repertory Theatre is turning their new downtown performing arts venue into a swank and swinging nightclub to celebrate Valentine's Day with Sweet, Sinatra…And All That Jazz, to be held on Saturday night, February 13th.  New York City crooner and CRT star Marcus Goldhaber and his jazz musicians, The In Time Band will provide an evening of live, smooth jazz music, and a dance floor will be available for those couples who would like to cut a rug.  Also include in the ticket price is an elegant dessert buffet, with delicacies created by local dessert artist Mary Turturro of "Mary's Cakes".  Complimentary non-alcoholic punch will be available, along with a cash bar with wine from Americana Vineyards and beer from Bacchus Brewing Inc.  Seating is reserved, and will be arranged cabaret style at small four-person tables.  Singles or couples, families or groups of friends are invited; all are welcome to sit and enjoy the sweets and music, or show their dancing skills on the dance floor.  Tickets are currently on sale and are $35.00 per person. Doors will open at 7:30.

Last night in a Long Island star studded event The Gold Coast International Film Festival and Arts Center held it's 2015 Gala at the Tilles Center. The Gold Coast Arts Center's honorees this year were, Vince Giordano, Artist of Distinction - Music, Actor Navid Negahban, Artist of Distinction, Film, and Director Patricia Riggen, Director, Woman of Influence Award.  The evening's presenters were Will Friedwald, author & music editor, Michael Cuesta, Screenwriter, director of Showtime's "Homeland" and Lou Diamond Phillips, Actor Director and the star of the upcoming fiom "The 33" The Gala Emcee was Award winning WABC correspondent Kristin Thorne.  Regina Keller Gil is founder & executive director of The Gold Coast Arts Center and Caroline Sorokoff is an associate director of the Gold Coast Arts Center and Director of the Gold Coast International Film Festival.  The festival will run November 9-15th.

Tom Fontana, Paul Fontana & Margot Harley to be Honored at The Acting Company's Gala

The Acting Company (Margot Harley, Co-Founder and Producer), America's best known touring repertory theater, will honor Emmy Award-winner Tom Fontana, educator and student mentor Paul Fontana, and Acting Company Co-founder and Producer Margot Harley at a Gala Benefit evening on Monday, November 9th atCapitale (130 Bowery - between Broome & Grand Sts). Both of the gentlemen will each be presented with the Warburg Humanitarian Award for their outstanding philanthropic endeavors on behalf of children, education and the arts, while Ms. Harley will be saluted for her 43 years of leadership and achievement as she steps down as Producer of The Acting Company.  

Lou Diamond Phillips Joins Celebrity List at Gold Coast International Film Festival

The Star-Studded lineup for the 2015 Gold Coast International Film Festival was announced today by festival director Caroline Sorokoff. Actor/Director Lou Diamond Phillips is the latest addition to the list of celebrities that will be attending the Gold Coast Arts Center Gala onOctober 28th at the Tilles Center for the Performing Arts.
