The Astoria Performing Arts Center (APAC) announced today that Artistic Director Tom Wojtunik will be stepping down from his position as Artistic Director on June 30th, 2014. During Wojtunik's six years as Artistic Director, he successfully raised the company's artistic profile and solidified APAC's place as a respected developer and producer of new works. For his final production, he will direct Rodgers & Hammerstein's rarely seen Allegro, opening May 1st, 2014. (Critics are invited to all performances.)
The Astoria Performing Arts Center (APAC) announced today, that as of April 14, 2014, Erin Moore will be the new Executive Director, replacing Taryn Sacramone, who resigned last June. This is the culmination of a nearly year-long search for that candidate whose love for the performing arts is matched only by her commitment to further the cultural vibrancy of Queens. The Cabaret Showdown is a monthly game show that offers a unique mixture of live karaoke and Jeopardy. Contestants are asked to sing selections from various musical categories listed on the Official Game Board with no knowledge of what the song will be until right before they sing. To level the playing field all songs are popular standards, each contestant is given a copy of the sheet music and accompanied by a live pianist. The winner receives a free booking at UNDER St. Marks for their very own showcase. Whether you are a contestant or in the audience you are guaranteed to have a blast!

For their extraordinary service to the community and their support of the arts, APAC will be honoring Assembly Member Aravella Simotas and Donna Finn, Principal of the Frank Sinatra School for the Performing Arts. The evening will include a cocktail reception catered by The Astor Room, an opportunity to explore the museum, and a special performance directed by APAC Artistic Director Tom Wojtunik.
