Theater Resources Unlimited (TRU) announces the casts of the upcoming plays in the 2012 TRU Voices New Plays Reading Series. The two plays yet to be presented are Appendage by Derek Murphy, produced by Tweiss Productions (Sharon Weiss & Eileen B. Weiss); and The Sin Eater by Michael Bettencourt, produced by Block & Tackle Productions, Inc. and Elfin Frederick Vogel. Courtney Reed, Lauren Ashley Zakrin Set for FAMOUS Reading

Famous, a new musical based on Hollywood's most notoriously known murder welcomes Courtney Reed (In the Heights, Mamma Mia!) and Lauren Ashley Zakrin (MTV's Search for the Next Elle Woods Finalist, and National Tours of Legally Blonde, Wicked, and Grease) to comprise the cast of two that will breathe life to the stage reading taking place on December 12th, 7pm, at Roy Arias' Off Broadway Theatre, directed by Christine O'Grady (Hair) with music direction by Seth Weinstein.

The works will be read on Monday, December 14; Tuesday, December 15; and Monday, December 21, 2009 at 7pm at the Players Theatre, located at 115 MacDougal Street, NYC.

Review - Next to Normal: Is Normal The New nor'mal:?

It's a funny thing with musicals about women with psychiatric disorders; they seem to be more accessible when focused on the way loved ones try and achieve some kind of normalcy while dealing with the problem, rather than being about the disorder itself. Back in the autumn of '05, Off-Broadway's Transport Group premiered nor'mal:, Yvonne Adrian, Cheryl Stein and Tom Kochan exceptional musical about a family's attempt to stay functional while dealing with the teenage daughter's anorexia. Just a few weeks earlier the New York Musical Theatre Festival featured Feeling Electric, composer Tom Kitt and bookwriter/lyricist Brian Yorky's hard driving tale of a suburban mom being treated for clinical depression.
