Pew Center For Arts & Heritage Announces $8.4 Million In Grants For Philadelphia Artists And Performers

The Pew Center for Arts & Heritage announced 39 grants today in support of the Philadelphia region's cultural organizations and artists. The 2019 awards total more than $8.4 million and provide funding for 12 Pew Fellowships and 27 project grants.

In February, Tim Cowbury returns with his bold response to the migration crisis, The Claim, following its run in Edinburgh as part of the British Council Showcase; the piece is directed by Mark Maughan.

The Martin E. Segal Theatre Center is happy to announce the full line-up of its annual PEN World Voices International Play Festival. As part of the 2019 PEN World Voices Festival of International Literature, the International Play Festival presents play readings with some of the most significant theatre artists from Germany. All six playwrights are part of the Gorki Theater in Berlin-a safe haven for immigrant, refugee and international theatre artists in Europe. Legendary Artistic Director of the Gorki, Shermin Langhoff will join in conversation about their work. The Festival aims to enrich awareness of global dialogues, by bridging American audiences and international theatre-makers. All readings will be followed by discussion.

The French Institute Alliance Française Announces Courtney Geraghty as New Artistic Director

The French Institute Alliance Française is pleased to announce the appointment of Courtney Geraghty as its new Artistic Director. Geraghty, who has both American and French citizenship, arrives at FIAF following an international career with positions in France, Japan, and Chile. Most recently she served as Cultural Attaché for the French Embassy in Santiago, Chile, curating and commissioning artistic events from a variety of disciplines, while also operating as the South American Performing Arts Liaison across the region. She will begin programming for FIAF in 2019.

This spring Sanae Yamada, keyboardist for Moon Duo, will release her debut solo album as Vive la Void. The self-titled release is out May 4th on Sacred Bones. As Vive la Void, Yamada foregrounds synthesizers and her own voice, stripping away the excesses of psychedelic music to its bedrock hypnotic pulse and hazy atmosphere. Recording during the rare downtime between Moon Duo's flurries of touring and recording, Vive la Void is dark and propulsive, and inspired by the strange and objective nature of memory and perception.
