Mirror Stage Launches Its New Expand Upon Staged Reading Series With A Focus On Institutional Racism

Sponsored in part by ArtsWA and the City of Seattle Office of Arts & Culture, Mirror Stage is thrilled to launch its new Expand Upon staged reading series responding to the community-selected theme 'Institutional Racism.' For this first round of Expand Upon, Mirror Stage commissioned Seattle playwrights Rachel Atkins and Seayoung Yim to each develop a short play using the same multi-generational, multi-racial cast. The plays will be presented in tandem, with a oderated discussion following every performance.

This Monday, August 28th at 7 pm the original Off-Broadway cast of 'The Lightning Theif: The Percy Jackson Musical' will reunite for one night only at the Green Room 42 for a special concert event. Lightning Theif Composer and Lyricist Rob Rokicki will host the celebration in honor of the cast album reaching the #3 spot on the Billboard Cast Album award. I was lucky enough to chat with James Hayden Rodriguez, Shenandoah Conservatory alum and cast member of 'The Lightning Theif Musical' about his experience being a part of a show whose subject material has such a cult following, and hear about his career.

Steve Martin's PICASSO AT THE LAPIN AGILE Opens in San Jose This November

San Jose State University's Department of Film and Theatre presents Picasso at the Lapin Agile, written by Steve Martin. In this award-winning absurdist comedy, a fiery young Albert Einstein happens upon an equally youthful Pablo Picasso in a Parisian bar in 1904, when both are on the cusp of their first successes. They lock wits in a hilarious battle of ideas about painting, probability, lust, and the future of the world. This production will be directed by SJSU Theatre Arts Lecturer Kirsten Brandt with evening performances November 3, 4, 8, 9, 10, and 11 at 7pm and one matinee performance November 9 at 11am. Performances take place at the Hammer Theatre Center, 101 Paseo De San Antonio, San Jose. Berkeley Rep presents World Premiere of IMAGINARY COMFORTS

Berkeley Repertory Theatre today announced the world premiere of Imaginary Comforts, or The Story of the Ghost of the Dead Rabbit, written by Daniel Handler and directed by Tony Taccone. The new play begins previews on Thursday, October 5 and the show runs through Sunday, November 19.
