Photo Flash: First Look At FROST/NIXON At Theatreworks Silicon Valley

TheatreWorks Silicon Valley will kick off the new year with the Tony and Olivier Award nominated drama Frost/Nixon. Written by Golden Globe winner Peter Morgan (creator of Netflix's The Crown), Frost/Nixon is a riveting political prizefight where the cameras roll, the truth spins, and it becomes clear that he who controls the medium controls the message. With America caught in the riptides of Watergate and Vietnam, the former leader of the free world and a lightweight British talk-show host clash in a legendary series of TV interviews that will determine the President's legacy forever. Directed by Leslie Martinson, Frost/Nixon will be presented January 16 - February 10, 2019 (press opening: January 19, 2019) at Mountain View Center for the Performing Arts, 500 Castro Street, Mountain View. BWW Review: BRIGHTON BEACH MEMOIRS at Desert Theatreworks

Indio's Desert Theatreworks has scored another bullseye with their current production of Neil Simon's Brighton Beach Memoirs. Simon's semi-autobiographical memory piece about his early teenage years in a crowded Brooklyn tenement is delivered in a finely-nuanced performance by a dream cast in the capable hands of director Rebecca Havely. As a result, the tale of a young teen's personal growth and exploration, set against a house full of family conflict and financial strife, takes the audience on a ride which they all seemed to greatly enjoy on the evening I viewed the show.

'In the Next Room' centers around Doctor and Mrs. Givings, an upper-middle-class late 19th century family. Doctor Givings specializes in treating hysteria, a malady which we now know to be a bunch of baloney, but which apparently plagued a large percentage of women in that era.

NCTC Presents Hilarious And Heartfelt Comedy, STEVE By Mark Gerrard

In March, New Conservatory Theatre Center presents Steve, written by Mark Gerrard and directed by local favorite, Becca Wolff. Named one of Ben Brantley's Top Ten in 2015 in The New York Times, this uproariously funny comedy is "the ultimate theatre-geek's tragicomedy" (Newsday). What happens when you get bored with "happily ever after"? Steve got his happy ending, but years later, his Prince Charming is sexting another man, his best friend is ill, and he's hitting the expiration date on his desirability. Chock full of acidic wit, musical theatre references, and plenty of heart, Steve is a hilarious and relatable comedy about growing up, without growing old.
