The cast of White Christmas launched the Christmas windows at Fenwick of Bond Street in London yesterday, 29 October 2014. The cast, led by Aled Jones, Tom Chambers, Wendi Peters, Graham Cole, Rachel Stanley and Louise Bowden, performed the London premiere of the title number from the show to crowds on Bond Street. One thing that consistently frustrates me about Broadway is that it's exclusionary by nature. Sure, audiences can (and should) be incredibly diverse, as can the communities backstage, on stage, in the producing offices and on the creative teams. However, what live theater requires that other media does not is a very specific time and place. In order to consume theater, you have to be in a theater, a space with a limited capacity. And a lot of times you have to be in a major city, often New York.
The Way Off Broadway Dinner Theatre has brought many theatrical premieres to the area including being one of the first theaters in the country to obtain the rights to produce a regional theater production of the musical comedy The Wedding Singer. Other shows, such as Neil Simon's The Goodbye Girl - The Musical, La Cage aux Folles, Thoroughly Modern Millie, Mel Brooks'The Producers, and All Shook Up made their western Maryland regional theater debuts at Way Off Broadway.
According to the New York Times, Broadway producing team Kevin McCollum and Jeffrey Seller decided to end their partnership to produce independently. The duo, which has been working together for 21 years, are the founders of The Producing Office, established in 1994. They described their decision as a 'natural evolution.'
