BWW Review: Chaffin's Barn's TAFFETAS Blends Nostalgia and Sentiment to Musical Perfection

There's nothing quite so entertaining - and nothing goes down more easily after a trip to the groaning board at Nashville's iconic Chaffin's Barn Dinner Theatre - than a musical revue that is sure to whisk you away to yesterday. Not the day before today, necessarily, but 'yesterday' as in a sentimental journey back to a time when life was somehow more innocent and somehow less complicated than what we experience in the day-to-day of 2016.

BWW Review: Springhouse Theatre's THE MARVELOUS WONDERETTES

How wonderful is it that a song can usher in all sorts of memories - perhaps of your first kiss, driving in a car along a dusty country road, or of people once-loved, still-loved, who are no longer a part of your life - to flood your mind, fill your heart and to transport you, as if by magic, to some earlier time? I love that feeling, which we in the theater are subject to far more often than regular folk, thanks to the music that underscores our dramatic lives and which allows everyone onstage, offstage, backstage - in whatever stage of life - to indulge in the play of 'make believe.'

BWW Review: CASA VALENTINA: High-heeled Politics

SpeakEasy Stage Company presents the New England premiere of Harvey Fierstein's 2014 Tony Award nominee for Best Play. CASA VALENTINA invites and initiates the audience into a world where normal is in the eye of the beholder when a group of heterosexual men meet secretly to release the girl within. Scott Edmiston directs a strong ensemble cast, with breakout performances by Eddie Shields and Greg Maraio.

SISTERS OF SWING Set for Stage Door Theatre, Now thru 7/12

They sold over 75 million records, nine of them gold. They had more Top Ten hits than the Beatles or Elvis. Until the advent of The Supremes, The Andrews Sisters - Patty, Maxene, and Laverne - were the most imitated of all female singing groups; they are still one of the best-selling female vocal groups of all time.  Sisters of Swing, which will run from June 5th through July 12th at the Stage Door Theatre, details the fascinating journey of these three sisters from their early days in vaudeville through their success in 'the big time'.

BWW Reviews: SIGNATURE SISTERS Christens Signature Theatre's Newest Space—The Shen

In Signature's newest cabaret offering, SIGNATURE SISTERS, the incomparable Sherri Edelen, Signature favorite Susan Derry, and the impossibly young and brilliant Florrie Bagel bring the house down. The three have no trouble filling the room, expressing with delicate harmonies the deep heart of female trios from across the ages.

Ruth Roberts' Sing-Along Songs Now Available on iTunes

After a heavy winter, parents of small children all around the country may be in a celebratory mood as they anticipate letting their children once again enjoy the great outdoors. BWW Reviews: Laguna Playhouse's Marvelous Summer Treat: New Marvelous Wonderettes Sequel

Roger Bean has had such tremendous success with his Marvelous Wonderettes, the musical fable of the all-female singing quartet that began at Springfield High in the 50s and 60s... and, he's done it again. Missy (Misty Cotton), Suzy (Bets Malone), Betty Jean (Jenna Coker-Jones) and Cindy Lou ( Lowe Taylor) are back for their second sequel entitled Marvelous Wonderettes: Caps and Gowns. Now onstage at the Laguna Playhouse, the four gals are still crackling with energy and optimism under the loving eye of director Bean.
