TheatreWorks Silicon Valley continues its 51st season with the hit musical Ragtime. This sweeping and stirring musical masterpiece paints a portrait of America at the dawn of the twentieth century, interweaving the lives of three families—an African American family, a Jewish Immigrant family, and a wealthy white family—finding their places and pursuing the American Dream in a rapidly changing world. Featuring a Tony Award-winning book by Pulitzer Prize finalist Terrence McNally (Master Class, Kiss of the Spider Woman, The Rink) and a Tony Award-winning score by Stephen Flaherty and Lynn Ahrens (Once on This Island, Anastasia, Seussical The Musical), this musical is based on E. L. Doctorow’s best-selling novel of the same name. Ragtime will be presented June 1-26, 2022 (press opening: June 4) at the Mountain View Center for the Performing Arts. Lincoln Center Theater has announced new dates for its upcoming production of Epiphany, a new play by Brian Watkins, directed by Tyne Rafaeli.  The play will now begin previews Thursday, May 26 and open on Thursday, June 23 at the Mitzi E. Newhouse Theater (150 West 65 Street).

The musical is based on former Lumineers member Neyla Pekarek's first solo album, Rattlesnake, which features songs inspired by the life of Colorado's own 'Rattlesnake Kate' Slaughterback. Nearly 100 years ago, Kate killed around 140 rattlesnakes mostly using a wooden sign she found after her rifle ran out of ammunition, not only saving herself but also her 3-year-old son and their horse, Brownie.

Classic Stage Company announced that the upcoming run of black odyssey, written by Marcus Gardley and directed by Stevie Walker-Webb, has been postponed. Originally set to begin performances in Winter 2022, black odyssey will now begin performances later this season at the Lynn F. Angelson Theater (136 East 13th Street,  NY, NY 10003).

Playwright Jake Brasch Awarded 2021-22 College Collaboration Project Commission With The Farm Theater

Now in its ninth season of supporting emerging writers The Farm Theater has awarded their 2021/22 College Collaboration Project Commission to playwright Jake Brasch (Greenland at Dixon Place; Salutations, I'm Creative Dave at Alchemical Theatre Laboratory). Jake will collaborate with Austin Peay State University in Clarksville, TN and Pellissippi State College in Knoxville, TN. Austin Peay is participating in The Farm Theater's College Collaboration Project for the first time. This will be Pellissippi State's second year, following their partnership in 2018-19.
