Keegan's 'Playwright In Residence Series' Joins WEST BY GOD Premiere

As part of a new initiative to showcase works by exciting emerging playwrights, Keegan Theatre's Boiler Room Series presents the inaugural Playwright in Residence Series. During the world premiere run of WEST BY GOD (playing September  27 through October 20, 2019), Boiler Room Series will produce readings of additional new works by local playwright and company member Brandon McCoy. Readings are free and open to all and will be followed by discussions with the playwright. 

The World Premiere Of (A)LOFT MODULATION Begins Tonight

a??a??a??a??a??a??a?? the american vicarious proudly presents the World Premiere of (A)loft Modulation by NYC-based playwright Jaymes Jorsling. Inspired by true events at 821 6th Avenue from 1957 - 1965,  (A)loft Modulation will feature a live jazz band led by saxophonist Jonathan Beshay that will improvise nightly. Previews begin tonight, Thursday September 26th, with Opening Night set for Thursday, October 3rd. This limited Off-Broadway engagement runs through Sunday, October 27th.

Philadelphia Theatre Company Kicks Off 45th Anniversary Season With A SMALL FIRE, Starring Bebe Neuwirth

Philadelphia Theatre Company's 45th Anniversary Season kicks off with the Philadelphia premiere of Obie Award Recipient Adam Bock's meticulously crafted drama A Small Fire, starring two-time Tony and Emmy Award winner Bebe Neuwirth. The play will be directed by Joanie Schultz, former Artistic Director of the WaterTower Theatre in Texas, and also known for her work in Chicago at The Goodman, Victory Gardens and Steppenwolf Theatres. Producing Artistic Director Paige Price and Managing Director Emily Zeck are excited to welcome Neuwirth and a cast of nationally and locally renowned actors to star in the season opener. Previews begin October 18th, Opening Night is Wednesday, October 23rd, and the show runs through November 10th. Photo Flash: Hartford Stage Presents QUIXOTE NUEVO

Hartford Stage will open its 2019/2020 season with Quixote Nuevo, an inspired, Tejano music-filled, contemporary reimagining of the Miguel de Cervantes classic Don Quixote, by award-winning playwright Octavio Solis. Performances run  through Sunday, October 13.

Towson University Premieres New Play ICARUS AT THE BORDER

Lust, addiction, greed, temptation, the lure of power and the horrors of human nature strike at the heart of a new otherworldly play, written and directed by TU Assistant Professor Tavia LaFollette and TU CoLab Artist-in-Residence Malcolm Purkey, devised with the help of Towson University students. ICARUS AT THE BORDER, a meditation on monstrous appetites runs November 14a?"23 at TU's Center for the Arts Studio Theatre.

Austin Shakespeare Presents A New Production Of Homer's THE ODYSSEY

Six creative actors will bring to life scenes from the hero's epic adventures in Austin Shakespeare's new production of Homer's The Odyssey at the Long Center's Rollins Theatre. Daytime performances, Oct. 9-11 at 10 a.m., are designed for audiences in grades 6 to 12 and evening performances, Oct. 11-12 at 7:30 p.m. for families.

Studio Theatre Extends Pulitzer Prize-Winning DOUBT: A Parable

Studio Theatre is extending its season-opening production of Doubt: A Parable, adding five performances through October 13, 2019. John Patrick Shanley's masterpiece received the Tony Award and Pulitzer Prize for its compelling interrogation of certitude and scandal within the Catholic Church. Studio's production is directed by the theatre's Associate Artistic Director Matt Torney and is anchored by DC theatre treasure Sarah Marshall, distinguished by having performed at Studio more than any other actor. Joining Marshall are Christian Conn (Studio Theatre's Venus in Fur) as Father Flynn, Amelia Pedlow as Sister James, and Tiffany M. Thompson as Mrs. Muller.

Nilo Cruz Named Visiting Playwright-in-Residence at UCLA

Teri Schwartz, Dean of the UCLA School of Theater, Film and Television (UCLA TFT), one of the world's most prominent academic institutions for entertainment and performing arts education, announced today the appointment of Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright Nilo Cruz as the school's second Hearst Theater Lab Initiative Distinguished Visiting Playwright-in-Residence. Cruz will assume his role for the entirety of the 2019-20 academic year.
