Amas Musical Theatre's Rosetta LeNoire Musical Theatre Academy will present Pippin, the multiple Tony Award-winning musical (1972, original and 2013, revival) with book by Roger O. Hirson, music and lyrics by Stephen Schwartz.

La Mirada Theatre for the Performing Arts and McCoy Rigby Entertainment present the award-winning and revolutionary 1776 THE MUSICAL at the Younes and Soraya Nazarian Center for the Performing Arts (The Soraya), February 8 through 10. 1776 THE MUSICAL, the Tony Award winner for Best Musical (1969) and has music and lyrics by Sherman Edwards and book by Peter Stone. It is directed by Glenn Casale with musical direction by Jeff Rizzo.

Pippin plays at Southwark Playhouse from 23 February - 24 March 2018. Pippin features Jonathan Carlton reprising his role as Pippin and Genevieve Nicole returning as The Leading Player. The principal cast is completed with Mairi Barclay, Bradley Judge, Tessa Kadler and Rhidian Marc. Players include Michelle Andrews, Andrew Halliday, Scott Hayward and Ellie Seaton.

Artistic Director Ray Jivoff unveiled Skylight Music Theatre's 2018-19 Season line-up of "firsts" -- five shows that have never been produced at Skylight.  "We are thrilled to announce this exciting season of well-known and well-loved shows that have not been produced by Skylight before," said Jivoff. Following on the heels of the hilarious LUCKY STIFF and the poignant  JOHN & JEN, Street Theatre Company presents PIPPIN. This venerable musical with music and lyrics by Stephen Schwartz and a book by Roger O. Hirson opened on Broadway in 1972 under the brilliant direction of Bob Fosse and went on to receive 5 Tony Awards and 4 Drama Desk awards the following year. A fully reimagined Broadway revival in 2013 won the show 4 more Tonys, 4 more Drama Desks, plus a slew of other awards.

Sulie Harand Friedman, co-founder of Harand Camp of the Theatre Arts, passed away Saturday evening, August 6 at the age of 97.  Sulie was preceded in death by Harand Camp co-founders - husband Byron Friedman, sister Pearl Harand Gaffin, and brother-in-law Sam Gaffin.  In addition to her legacy as a teacher, director and businesswoman through Harand Theatre Camp, Sulie was renowned for her one-woman interpretations of classic musicals. She will be remembered for her contributions to performing arts education and lasting impact on thousands of Haranders around the world.

As America celebrates its 240th Birthday today, let's talk about what is probably one of the greatest musicals ever written, and it only came about 46 years before Hamilton. 1776 dramatizes the story of how John Adams was able to persuade his colleagues to vote for American independence as well as signing the Declaration of Independence. While the musical does dramatize the most important event in American history, the story behind the musical is probably just as interesting.

Center Stage Jackson has announced a very special production of the musical 1776 at The Cascades.  Directed by Denise Weber, this performance will be an outdoor theatre event at a new venue for Center Stage Jackson: The Cascades at 1400 S. Brown St. Jackson, MI 49201. 

In 1970, the Broadway company of 1776 played a special performance at The White House.
