Ensemble Theatre Opens THE LITTLE PRINCE on Friday!Ensemble Theatre Opens THE LITTLE PRINCE on Friday!
by BWW News Desk - Nov 28, 2017

This play (with music) tells the story of a world-weary and disenchanted Aviator whose sputtering plane strands him in the Sahara Desert and a mysterious, regal 'little man' who appears and asks him to 'Please, sir, draw me a sheep.' During their two weeks together in the desert, the Little Prince tells the Aviator about his adventures through the galaxy, how he met the Lamplighter and the Businessman and the Geographer, and about his strained relationship with a very special flower on his own tiny planet. BWW Review: Applause, But No Standing Ovation for CABARET at Blank Canvas - But Big Time Accolades of Alan Cumming in Concert
by Roy Berko - Dec 6, 2016

Cabaret. It's 1931 in Germany, a country of unrest. We find ourselves at the Kit Kat Klub, a seedy cabaret, a place of decadence and emotional abandonment. Hanging over the entire scene is the aura of the growth of the Nazi party and the impending reign of terror. (more...)

BWW Review: Blank Canvas Challenges Audience Sensibilities with SILENCE! THE MUSICAL
by Roy Berko - Oct 24, 2016

Pat Ciamacco, the curmudgeon of glee and horror, is at it again. While it seems almost by chance, the artistic director of Blank Canvas selects the likes of OUR TOWN, TWELVE ANGRY MEN and OF MICE AND MEN. But most often Ciamacco digs up such scripts as THE WILD PARTY (a play about decadence and uninhibited sexual behavior), REEFER MADNESS (the 'truth' about using marijuana), BAT BOY THE MUSICAL (the tale of a large-eyed fanged human child), TRIASSIC PARQ THE MUSICAL (a songfest 65-million years in the making), DEBBIE DOES DALLAS (a stage version of the 1978 pornographic film), and TEXAS CHAINSAW MUSICAL (the story of a handsome serial killer and his overly affectionate momma, staged complete with a 'blood zone,' where members of the audience chose, if they desired, to be bathed in fake blood!) BWW Reviews: Farcical HOUNDS OF BASKERVILLES at Actors' Summit
by Roy Berko - Dec 2, 2014

There's a moor, a diabolical hound, a maiden, a man who dies of a heart attack (well, maybe), a butler who carries around a tray of plastic food and wears an obvious fake beard, an attempt to perform CPR on an obvious stuffed dummy, men in a sauna wearing towels over their suits, men dressed as women, and lots of doors slamming. BWW Reviews: THE PILLOWMAN - A Chilling Look at Life and Death at Convergence Continuum
by Roy Berko - Sep 29, 2014

Clyde Simon, Artistic Director of convergence continuum, has a knack for finding off-beat, provocative plays that incite discussion and strong reactions from the theatre's loyal following. That group, and probably many more, will find themselves entranced by Martin McDonagh's black comedy, 'The Pillowman.' (more...)

THE PILLOWMAN Opens 9/26 at convergence-continuum
by BWW News Desk - Sep 9, 2014

convergence-continuum continues its 2014 Season with Martin McDonagh's viciously funny psychological thriller The Pillowman. The setting of this dark dramatic comedy is an unnamed totalitarian state where Katurian, a writer of short stories which often depict violence against children, has been arrested by two detectives, Ariel and Tupolski, because some of his stories resemble recent child murders. When he hears that his brother Michal has confessed to the murders and implicated Katurian, he resigns himself to his execution but attempts to save his stories from destruction. The play includes both narrations and reenactments of several of Katurian's stories, most notably the autobiographical 'The Writer and the Writer's Brother', which tells how Katurian developed his disturbed imagination by hearing the sounds of Michal being tortured by their parents.
