The heart of NYC's theatre district will be filled with Broadway stars, fans and unmissable theatrical treasures this Sunday, September 30, 2018, for the 32nd Annual Broadway Flea Market & Grand Auction, produced by and benefiting Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS.

Today we celebrate the breathtaking Deaf West revival of Duncan Sheik and Steven Sater's adolescent rock musical, Spring Awakening, which opened on Broadway on this day in 2015.

I love SPRING AWAKENING so much that after seeing the eight time Tony winner on Broadway (with most of the original cast), I named the next kitten I adopted Moritz Stiefel, after my favorite character. Nine years and three bladder surgeries later, my sweet Moritz is still with me, and so is my love for SPRING AWAKENING. Surprisingly (or maybe not so surprisingly), the themes of the late 19th Century German play, as seen through a rock musical, are still relevant today. Suicide rates are on the rise, there are some very real threats to abortion rights in this country, exposure and intolerance of sexual abuse and harassment is at an all time high, and 21st Century technology is making it harder to be a teenager than perhaps it's ever been. You think Wendla and Melchi had it rough? At least they never had their most embarrassing moment go viral for the entire world to bully them! For all of these reasons I'm grateful to Shoot the Glass Theater for bringing SPRING AWAKENING to us now, in a beautifully staged production featuring a super talented cast of young and unknown actors. I found myself falling in love with this story and these characters all over again.

Dale Soules (Orange Is The New Black, Hands On A Hardbody) will step into a reading of Michael Raver's new political drama, Evening. Bedlam Artistic Director Eric Tucker will direct the reading on September 24th in New York. Soules replaces the previously announced Roberta Maxwell.

New York Stage and Film announced today that Artistic Director Johanna Pfaelzer will be stepping down from her longtime leadership position with the organization to become the new Artistic Director of Berkeley Repertory Theatre beginning September 1, 2019.

Thank you, BroadwayWorld, for asking me to write a blog on our new musical theatre season From Page To Stage. It's given me the opportunity to truly look over the previous five years' work and all we have achieved and contributed to the British landscape of new musicals.

I am speechless. Awe-struck. At a loss of words. What an astounding production. I don't know how I'll fit all of my thoughts in one review. But I'll give it my best shot.

Spring Awakening opened to a sold-out crowd last night in West Hollywood's The Lounge Theatre, this being the premiere project for Me + You Productions. The rock musical, known for being groundbreaking on Broadway in 2006, is looked at through a new lens in this production: Gun Saftey. With 100% of proceeds going to Everytown for Gun Saftey, Me + You Productions find the intricate balance of connecting current struggles and honoring the original story.

Me+You Productions is gearing up for their Los Angeles production of the Tony-Award winning musical Spring Awakening. The show will begin its three-week run at The Lounge Theatre in West Hollywood, California, opening on August 24th and closing September 9th. 100% of ticket proceeds from this production will benefit Everytown for Gun Safety, an American nonprofit organization whose aim is to reduce gun deaths in the wake of increased mass shootings.

PRETTY WOMAN: THE MUSICAL, with original music and lyrics by Grammy Award winner Bryan Adams and his longtime songwriting partner Jim Vallance, a book by Garry Marshall and the film's screenwriter J.F. Lawton, and direction and choreography by two-time Tony Award winner Jerry Mitchell, opened just last night, Thursday, August 16, 2018, at Broadway's Nederlander Theatre.

After two years in summer residence at the Ambassadors Theatre in the West End, The British Theatre Academy are to present the acclaimed Broadway musical Spring Awakening, winner of eight Tony Awards including Best Musical, Book and Score and 4 Olivier Awards including Best New Musical, at Stockwell Playhouse from Thursday 16 - Sunday 19 August. 

Who better to perform a musical about a group of angsty German teens than an actual group of young people? Spring Awakening joins Bring It On and Goodnight Mr Tom as the British Theatre Academy's third show of the summer. This rock musical is beautifully designed and staged and features many talented young performers.

Bedlam Artistic Director Eric Tucker will direct a reading of Michael Raver's new political drama, Evening on September 24th. The piece will feature Roberta Maxwell (Brokeback Mountain, Lincoln Center's Our Town), Michael Potts (The Book of Mormon, Jitney, The Iceman Cometh) Jack Wetherall (Queer as Folk, Skintight), Vince Nappo (Reign, TFANA's The Merchant of Venice), Kelley Curran (Sense and Sensibility, TFANA's The Winter's Tale) and Michael Raver (The Persians, Death Comes for The War Poets).

This past season, NBC aired 'Rise.' The television show spotlighted a high school in a conservative working class neighborhood. The school's new drama teacher, portrayed by Josh Rado, decided rather than staging a traditional, escapist musical, that the students and community would grow from doing 'Spring Awakening,' an exploration of 'young people navigating a world full of pain, frustration, growing up and peopled with not only teens, but adults who often don't have the best intentions.'

Staged! presents an electrifying fusion of morality, sexuality and rock and roll in SPRING AWAKENING.
