The Public Will Debut PUBLIC WORKS Initiative With Musical THE TEMPEST

The Public Theater has announced a groundbreaking new initiative for community-based theater, PUBLIC WORKS, that is designed to cultivate new connections and new models of engagement with artists, audiences and the community each year. In its inaugural year, PUBLIC WORKS will create an extraordinary example of participatory theater with a free, original musical adaptation of THE TEMPEST at the Delacorte Theater, inspired by a 1916 community theatrical event of Caliban by the Yellow Sands at the stadium at City College in New York.

The play runs from April 10 to 28, with preview performances April 10, 11 and 12. Opening Night is April 13, and the closing performance is on April 28. STAGE TUBE: JUDAS REDUX Creative Team Reacts to Reaching Kickstarter Goal

A Kickstarter campaign for the project was launched on Friday morning, March 29, and the goal of $36,000 was met on Monday evening, April 1, as of 11 p.m., approximately 82 hours after it went live. STAGE TUBE: Team StarKid Members Launch JUDAS REDUX Kickstarter Campaign

Julia Albain and Corey Lubowich (of Team StarKid fame) have announced a Kickstarter campaign for Judas Redux, a project that will include extensive behind-the-scenes content and a new production of The Last Days of Judas Iscariot by Stephen Adly Guirgis, directed by Julia Albain, and featuring Lauren Lopez, Joey Richter and Brian Rosenthal. If the goal of $36,000 is met, The Last Days of Judas Iscariot will be presented at Stage 773, 1225 West Belmont in Chicago, for 18 performances, August 23 - September 8, 2013. Vs. Theatre Company to Present COPS AND FRIENDS OF COPS, 4/24-6/1

VS. THEATRE COMPANY has announced its first production in its permanent new theatre, COPS AND FRIENDS OF COPS, written and directed by Ron Klier. COPS AND FRIENDS OF COPS will preview on Wednesday, April 24 & Thursday, April 25 at 8pm and will open on Friday, April 26 at 8pm and run through Saturday, June 1 at the new home of VS. Theatre Company (the former Black Dahlia Theatre), 5453 W. Pico Blvd. in Los Angeles.

The Company Members of Labyrinth Theater Company, the award-winning, downtown ensemble, have announced today casting for its upcoming NEWYORKNEWYORK Festival Marathon Weekend, which will feature forty-eight hours of free, round-the-clock readings of plays centered around New York themes - iconic playwrights, vibrant cultures, urban ideals, and more. Over 180 actors will participate in the marathon weekend of free play readings including: Max Casella, Sarita Chowdhury, Liza Colon-Zayas, Kieran Culkin, Tony Danza, John Doman, Tate Donovan, Halley Feiffer, Michael Kelly, Elizabeth Kemp, Josh Hamilton, Sarah Nina Hayon, Florencia Lozano, Julia Murney, Tony Plana, Elizabeth Rodriguez, Daphne Rubin-Vega, Julia Stiles, Marlo Thomas, and Yul Vazquez. Producer Dee Smith's vision for doing THE LAST DAYS OF JUDAS ISCARIOT came to her during a trip to Rome, Italy long before Pope Benedict decided to call it quits. She had been cast in another LA production several years ago, but she, along with several other cast members left the production early in the process.
