Steppenwolf Theatre Company begins the new year with Harold Pinter's The Birthday Party, under the direction of ensemble member Austin Pendleton. The Birthday Party features ensemble members Ian Barford, Francis Guinan, Moira Harris and John Mahoney with Sophia Sinise (one actor is still to be announced). The Birthday Party opens tonight, February 3, 2013, and runs through May 19 in Steppenwolf's Upstairs Theatre (1650 N Halsted St).

Tony Nominee Yul Vazquez will join Chris Rock, Bobby Canavale (Tony Nominee) Elizabeth Rodriguez (Tony Nominee) and Annabella Sciorra - all in their original Broadway roles - for this 2011 Tony Nominated Best Play, The Motherf**ker with the Hat, presentede by L.A. Theatre Works beginning Jan. 31 at the James Bridges Theater.

Cygnet Theatre, currently halfway through their tenth anniversary season, is getting fired up about the next lineup of plays and musicals that they're preparing for their eleventh season. Cygnet Artistic Director Sean Murray and Executive Director Bill Schmidt have assembled a package of plays and musicals for the 2013-2014 season that they feel just may be their most exciting yet. Cygnet's eleventh season will feature seven productions performed in their home, the Old Town Theatre in Old Town San Diego State Historic Park, including two plays performed in a rotating repertory, two musicals, two San Diego premieres and a holiday revival. 'The scripts that we have assembled all went through the 'is-this-exciting?' filter!' says Murray. 'We feel that we have put together a line-up that continues to serve our eclectic, artistic-whiplash tastes here at Cygnet. All of the stories in next season's list concern relationships, love and the challenges of making personal connections.'

San Francisco Playhouse Bill English, Artistic Director and Susi Damilano, Producing Director start the new year off with a bang. Continuing the company's Tenth Season, now in their new venue at 450 Post Street, San Francisco Playhouse presents the West Coast premiere of the the raucous comedy,The Motherf**ker with the Hat, directed by Bill English. Press Opening is February 2nd.

Casting has been completed for an AEA production of Stephen Adly Guirgis's play, THE LAST DAYS OFJUDAS ISCARIOT at The Victory Theatre in Burbank produced by Dee Smith and directed by Patrick Riviere.

In Stephen Adly Guirgis' wickedly funny, intensely riveting 2011 dark urban comedy THE MOTHERF**KER WITH THE HAT -- now enjoying a superb, profanity-laced new production at South Coast Repertory in Costa Mesa through January 27 -- the idea of personal growth is explored mostly through the (cuss) words and actions of recovering addict Jackie, a volatile yet vulnerable NewYorican ex-con in desperate need to change himself and his wretched lot in life. Unfortunately, though, in this brilliant play, his optimistic trajectory is pretty much hindered by inescapable behavioral and environmental circumstances.

South Coast Repertory wraps up its current season with a fresh take on an American classic and a world premiere. The Fantasticks, the longest-running musical of all time, in a new setting by Amanda Dehnert, will be the final production of the season. SCR also will present the world premiere of Beau Willimon's The Parisian Woman as part of the 2013 Pacific Playwrights Festival.
