Black Girl Magic Show! is an absurdist dance theatre lecture by playwright/performer nicHi douglas on Black female identity. Utilizing African Diasporan histories, Black feminist theory, and a lot of stuff douglas made up, she attempts to unpack, re-pack, and de-pack the Black female experience in America as witnessed by one Black woman - The Professor. As the audience follows The Professor, they discover what might happen if the one Black girl without 'Black Girl Magic' takes matters into her own hands. Before the show ends, the audience experiences a TED-type talk, modern dance, a magic routine, and a concert, often simultaneously. And they probably see at least 20 wigs. (more...)

They performed in Old Hats out west together, and they'll be featuring some of the tunes from it. Shaina will be joined by her bandmates bassist/singer Mike Brun (Mr. Burns, Old Hats) and drummer/singer Jacob Colin Cohen (One Man, Two Guv'nors; Old Hats), pianist David Farrell Melton and singer Grace McLean (Bedbugs!!!), Catherine Brookman (Natasha, Pierre & The Great Comet of 1812) and Starr Busby will make special guest appearances. The York Theatre Company just presented its one-night only benefit concert, NEO 10, celebrating up and coming musical theatre writers, on Monday evening, June 2, 2014 The York Theatre Company's home at Saint Peter's (entrance on East 54th Street, just east of Lexington Avenue). The NEO 10 concert featured songs by this year's NEO writers: Bobby Cronin, Gabriel Kahane, Shaina Taub, andSam Willmott. The evening will also include songs by guest writers (and past NEO honorees) Benj Pasek and Justin Paul. The evening, directed by Annette Jolles, with music direction by David Shenton, included previously announced performances by Starr Busby, Liz Callaway, Kate Ferber, Grace Mclean, Andy Mientus, Kristin Sieh, Phillipa Soo, and the ensemble from Marymount Manhattan College.
