The Broad Stage announces an expanded number of American Sign Language (ASL) interpreted performances for the 2019-2020 season in an effort to create an inclusive environment for all audience members and ensure that as many people as possible are able to experience the magic of live performance. The first ASL interpreted performance will be The Moth Mainstage in Los Angeles on October 4.
The Broad Stage's annual Broad Fest returns on Sunday, September 1, 2019 from 2:00pm a?" 7:00pm. This free, all-ages festival features music and dancing, activities for kids and adults, plus sweets and food available for purchase. There is a definite relationship between rap and jazz. Musicians improvise with notes. Rappers improvise with words. Many of the great hip-hop recordings featured samples from some of the greatest jazz albums. So it should be no surprise that there are rappers who are not only comfortable in post-bop sonic settings, but can also deliver some swinging verses themselves. The result of this fusion of styles, motifs, and genres is a corps of instrumentalists who are influenced by rappers, who in turn, are influenced by musicians.

One evening. Two amazing artists! Jeff Kashiwa is one of the most compelling young saxophonists in contemporary jazz. Having established himself in the 1990's as one of the most diverse saxmen during his decade long tenure with The Rippingtons, Kashiwa's instincts led him to more dynamic endeavors through his solo career. It surprised many when Jeff left the group to venture out on his own, but he had things to say through his own music. Kashiwa now has nine CDs released under his own name and has continued to record as a guest artist with many other artists as well. In 2004, Kashiwa founded The Sax Pack, a trio of saxophone headliners, featuring himself, Steve Cole and Kim Waters. The group released two CDs together and charmed audiences with their Rat Pack style repartee' in tours across the U.S. and abroad. His newest CD, Let It Ride, features a host of the greatest musicians in the world of Contemporary Jazz, including Russ Freeman, David Benoit, Chuck Loeb and Tom Schuman of Spyro Gyra.
The National Philharmonic celebrates the genius of Johannes Brahms at Strathmore with a performance by Grammy and Sphinx Competition award winner, American violinist Melissa White, in "Spirited Brahms." White will perform Brahms' Violin Concerto in D Major, Op. 77 under the baton of Philharmonic Music Director and Conductor Piotr Gajewski. Also on the program is Brahms Symphony No. 4 in E Minor, Op. 98, which is stored in its original condition in the U.S. Library of Congress.

Audiences will enjoy a members-only encore question-and-answer, and a kids "Meet the Instruments" session that will take place in the orchestra lobby on Sunday from 2-2:30 p.m., allowing young concertgoers a chance to interact with Philharmonic musicians and explore orchestral instruments from different families (string, wood, brass, and percussion).Ticket prices are $23-$76 and are free for young people age 7-17. The Philly POPS announced its 40th Anniversary 2018-19 concert season today. Subscriptions for this celebratory 40th Anniversary Season go on sale at 10 a.m. Moe Septee founded the POPS in November 1979 with a concert at the Academy of Music. Celebrated jazz pianist Peter Nero conducted the POPS from 1979 until 2013.
