PHOTOVILLE, NYC's Largest Photo Festival, Opens September 12

On September 12, Brooklyn-based nonprofit United Photo Industries (UPI, co-founded by Sam Barzilay, Dave Shelley, and Laura Roumanos) opens Photoville NYC 2019, the eighth year of the festival celebrating and showcasing photographers and organizations from New York and around the world in a rare open setting (September 12-22). UPI have transformed the festival's picturesque location, The Brooklyn Bridge Plazaa?"located in Brooklyn Bridge Park in DUMBO beneath the majestic span of the Brooklyn Bridgea?"into an immersive photography village populated by over 80 exhibitions in 60+ shipping containers repurposed into galleries. Photoville NYC 2019 continues to focus on the power of visual storytelling, showcasing stories from across New York City's five boroughs and throughout the world.

Jeremy Herrin Will Stand Down As Artistic Director Of Headlong

Jeremy Herrin announced today that after 7 years as Artistic Director of Headlong he will be stepping down in 2020 to pursue a career as a freelance director. During the seven years Herrin has led the company it has experienced remarkable success with his own productions such as the ground-breaking The Nether which played at the Royal Court and in the West End; the multi-award-winning People, Places and Things by Duncan Macmillan which played at the National Theatre, on tour in the UK, in the West End and at St Ann's Warehouse; Jack Thorne and Stephen Warbeck's Junkyard on tour in the UK; James Graham's This House on tour in the UK and in the West End; and Graham's Olivier Award-Winning play Labour of Love in the West End.

Yokko Returns With EN

EN, sponsored, in part, by the Greater New York Arts Development Fund of the New York City Department of Cultural Affairs, administered by Brooklyn Arts Council, running September 13-15 at Brooklyn's Triskelion Arts, 106 Calyer Street in Brooklyn reflects the deep connections we achieve in our lives - intentionally and unintentionally - positive and negative - for just one moment or for our entire lives.

MEDEA Starring Rose Byrne and Bobby Cannavale Sets Dates

Simon Stone stages his contemporary rewrite of Euripides' tragedy, Medea, at the BAM Harvey Theater running Jan 12—Feb 23, 2020. The production will star Emmy and Golden Globe nominee Rose Byrne (Damages, Bridesmaids, Get Him to the Greek) and two-time Emmy winner and Tony nominee Bobby Cannavale (Mauritius, The Motherf**ker With the Hat), with full cast to be announced. 

Meet the Cast of LITTLE SHOP OF HORRORS Off-Broadway!

Audiences are getting ready to head to Skid Row this fall! As BroadwayWorld previously reported, Howard Ashman and Alan Menken's classic sci-fi musical Little Shop of Horrors is returning to New York at the Westside Theatre, with previews beginning September 17th and opening night set for October 17th. The production is set to run for a limited engagement through November 24th. Baryshnikov Arts Center Presents The World Premiere Of Dance Heginbotham's HERZ SCHMERZ

Baryshnikov Arts Center (BAC) presents the World Premiere of HERZ SCHMERZ, a work co-conceived by award-winning choreographer John Heginbotham and acclaimed author, painter, and illustrator Maira Kalman. Following the duo's debut collaboration The Principles of Uncertainty in 2017, this new dance-play is based on the written work of early 20th-century Swiss author Robert Walser. Performances are Thursdaya?"Saturday, October 10a?"12, at 7:30pm, at BAC's Jerome Robbins Theater, 450 West 37th Street in Manhattan.

Chester Theatre Company Presents CURVE OF DEPARTURE

Chester Theatre Company (CTC) will present Curve of Departure by Rachel Bonds in the historic Chester Town Hall, 15 Middlefield Road in Chester, MA, from August 8 - 18. The production is directed by Keira Naughton making her CTC debut.

Bobby Cannavale and Rose Byrne Will Star in MEDEA at BAM

According to Vulture, stage and screen couple Bobby Cannavale and Rose Byrne have their eye on their next project together. The duo will star in Euripedes's Medea at BAM this January. The play will be directed by Simon Stone.

The NY Dance and Performance Awards, The Bessies, New York City's premier dance awards honoring outstanding creative work in the field, celebrates a landmark 35th anniversary this year. Today, the nominees for the 2019 Bessie Awards, along with the recipients of the 2019 Juried Bessie Award and 2019 Outstanding Breakout Choreographer Award, were announced and celebrated at the Bessies press conference. ACQUANETTA And GRACE AND MERCY Announced At Bard SummerScape

The 2019 Bard SummerScape festival presents a pair of important new dance and theater works next month. On July 5-7, Evidence, A Dance Company and its founder and artistic director, Ronald K. Brown, make their festival debut with the world premiere of Grace and Mercy. A new SummerScape commission, this two-part program pairs Grace (live), a 20th-anniversary version of Brown's soulful masterpiece Grace, now danced entirely to live music performed by Peven Everett, Gordon Chambers, and others, with the world premiere of Mercy, Brown's new companion piece, which is set to a brand-new score written and performed live by ten-time Grammy-nominee Meshell Ndegeocello.

Jenna Russell, Olivier Award-winning star of stage and TV, is known for her roles in Les Miserables, Sunday in the Park with George and, most recently, Fun Home at the Old Vic. She is now playing the role of Francesca in the upcoming UK premiere of Jason Robert Brown's The Bridges of Madison County at the Menier Chocolate Factory.

Mark Rylance Resigns from RSC Due to BP Sponsorship

According to the Guardian, three-time Tony winner Mark Rylance has resigned as an associate artist with the UK's Royal Shakespeare Company due to a sponsorship deal with BP. He explained: "I do not wish to be associated with BP any more than I would with an arms dealer, a tobacco salesman or anyone who wilfully destroys the lives of others alive and unborn. Nor, I believe, would William Shakespeare."
