UCLA's Center for the Art of Performance (CAP UCLA) in association with the UCLA School of Theater, Film and Television presents A Pick Up Performance Company(s) Production of 217 Boxes of Dr. Henry Anonymous on Friday, October 11, at 8 p.m. and Saturday, October 12 at 3 p.m. and 8 p.m. at Freud Playhouse.

The New York premiere of WE'RE ONLY ALIVE FOR A SHORT AMOUNT OF TIME, written and performed by David Cale, with music co-written by Matthew Dean Marsh, and directed by Robert Falls, runs through Sunday, July 14.

IT'S A BEAUTIFUL WOUND, written and performed by prolific playwright Rich Orloff, is the true story of Rich's adventures in underground therapy using Ecstasy and psilocybin mushrooms, based on cutting-edge experiments designed to help people heal from deep emotional wounds. Inspired by the autobiographical monologues of Spalding Gray, IT'S A BEAUTIFUL WOUND takes the audience through the experience, in an honest, amusing and compelling way.

Performance Space New York partners with East Village-based queer funk dance party WET NOISE for a celebratory 12-Hour DANCE-A-THON (May 5, 12pm-12am), a fundraising event that couldn't be further from expectations of what a "fundraising event" entails. The DANCE-A-THON revels in filthy funk music, endless dancing, community building, and inclusivity across age, race, gender, sexuality, and class. DJs tag team in sets as a dynamic give-and-take, throughout the night; they include founding DJ Amber Martin along with Patrick Johnson, Ana Matronic (Scissor Sisters), Seth Kirby (Joshua Light Show), Thomas Campbell, and DatKat (O.E.A.).

With a chair, table, and bar of lights, visionary theatre maker Thaddeus Phillips magically conjures a rusty Croatian ferry, perilous international flights, obscure Amazonian ports, the twin cities of El Paso and Juarez, deportations, strip searches, illegal crossings, arbitrary passports and curious customs. Based on Phillips' actual adventures, 17 Border Crossings is a harrowing, comical, visually surreal and engrossing look at the imaginary lines that divide up the world and the very real barriers they create. 17 Border Crossings makes its Off-Broadway premiere at New York Theatre Workshop after sold out runs on four continents. The show is directed by Phillips' wife, Tatiana Mallarino (¡El Conquistador!).

PlayGround has announced the lineup for its second annual PlayGround Solo Performance Festival, a celebration of the best in Bay Area solo performance, running January 24-February 10 at Potrero Stage. The festival features 12 double-bill performances by 11 local artists over three weeks, including new works by Ron Campbell, Julie Gieseke, Malcolm Grissom, Emil  Guillermo, Michael Phillis, Fred Pitts, Kathryn Seabron, and Talisha Tolliver, as well as special guests Marga Gomez, Matthew Martin, and Nina Wise, with each evening running a little over two hours. PlayGround opens the program to the next generation of performers with a special Open Mic Night on Monday, January 28, at 8pm. The festival, initiated last winter as one of PlayGround's new "pop-up" programs, represents an extension of PlayGround's mission and commitment to the discovery of bold new voices for the stage and the first PlayGround offering fully dedicated to solo performance. Performance Space New York continues its Posthuman Series with DEAD THOROUGHBRED, a collaboration that includes at least keyon gaskin and sidony o'neal, October 26-27. DEAD THOROUGHBRED feels ambivalent about the posthuman future. Rather than the post-human, DEAD THOROUGHBRED feels the ante-human (ante = before in Latin), i.e. the dead and other non-human living and non-living forms, in an effort to complicate the idea that living human consciousness is the central or sole indicator of subjective relation. DEAD THOROUGHBRED acknowledges the inherent exclusion and limitations of posthuman theory. DEAD THOROUGHBRED's presentation in the Posthuman Series f**ks with the generativity of death and hopelessness as a critical antithesis to DEAD THOROUGHBRED's interest in posthuman ideas of enhanced living, futurity, and occult possibility.

With a new play destined for the New York International Fringe Festival (FringeNYC), filmmaker David Tolchinsky is living the mantra of the program he helped create at Northwestern University.

Playwright/actor Joe Gulla's "DADDY" will play Joe's Pub at The Public Theater on Monday, October 29th.

The Hunter Theater Project at Hunter College (President, Jennifer J. Raab) announced a two-week extension today for the critically acclaimed New York premiere of Anton Chekhov's UNCLE VANYA, directed by Richard Nelson, at the Frederick Loewe Theater (E. 68th Street between Lexington and Park Ave). Translated by Richard Nelson, Richard Pevear, and Larissa Volokhonsky, and directed by Nelson, UNCLE VANYA began performances on Friday, September 7 and was originally scheduled to run through October 14.

Performance Space New York kicks off its second themed season of performances and events-the Posthuman Series-with the world premiere of Annie Dorsen's The Slow Room (September 27-29). Dorsen has taken the idea of technological theater further than most artists.
