With the long overdue American staged premiere of Antonin Dvorak's Dimitrij as its operatic centerpiece, this year's immersion in 'Chopin and His World' is no exception.

In celebration of Japan Society's 110th anniversary, the Society's Performing Arts Program presents the NOH-NOW Series featuring four extraordinary events in dance and theater: Luca Veggetti's Left-Right-Left, Hiroshi Sugimoto's Rikyu-Enoura, SITI Company's Hanjo and Satoshi Miyagi's Mugen Noh Othello; and the North American Premiere of Moto Osada's opera, Four Nights of Dream, which launches the Fall 2017 Season in September. This summer's Shakespeare in the Park production on the Town Stage will introduce audiences to two of Shakespeare's most famous and fraught lovers: Kate & Petruchio, played by Michael Raver (TV's TURN: Washington's Spies) and Telluride Theatre's own Cat Lee Covert (A Midsummer Night's Dream). Shakespeare's The Taming of the Shrew, penned at the height of his powers as a playwright and London entertainer, is both a play full of deception, dress-up and ultimately one of the most tumultuous and true relationships between any two characters in any of his 38 plays.

Opening next Friday, July 28, Bard SummerScape presents the long overdue American staged premiere of Dimitrij (1882). Set to a libretto by Marie Cervinkova-Riegrova, one of the relatively few 19th-century women to contribute to the genre, Antonín Dvorák's grand opera is rarely produced outside the Czech Republic, and only received its U.S. concert premiere more than a century after its composition.

Atlantic Theater Company will present Asian American Mixfest, a series of free readings co-produced by playwrights Lloyd Suh and Qui Nguyen that will run Wednesday, August 9 through Thursday, August 17 at Atlantic Stage 2 (330 West 16th Street).

Pocket Universe presents a new, all-female production of William Shakespeare's Julius Caesar, starring Alyssa May Gold (Arcadia on Broadway, Middle of the Night) as Brutus, Dea Julien (West Side Story 1st Nat'l Tour, Blueprint Specials) as Julius Caesar, Violeta Picayo (BEDLAM's Sense & Sensibility, RadioBABEL) as Mark Antony, Madeline Wolf (Fun Home on Broadway, Normativity) as Cassius, Miranda Cornell (Alter Ego, #Blessed) as Casca, and Amie Tedesco (Lemon Sky, Any Day Now) as Lucius. All other roles will be played by members of the company. The production will run through July 8, 2017 at the Access Theater Gallery Space. Opening night is tonight, June 23.

???????Tickets are now on sale to the inaugural Corkscrew Theater Festival, running August 7 - September 3 at the Paradise Factory (64 East 4th Street, Manhattan). Presented by The Brewing Dept. and Fortress Productions, this new summer theater festival provides early-career artists a high level of production support and features five world premieres and five readings performed in repertory over four weeks. Special attention has been given to theater makers who are developing work through innovative and unusual collaborative models. A majority of the participating artists identify as female.

'soot and spit' has already received rave reviews from the New York Times, and Kim Weild, the director behind this ambitious new work, shared her "insider" perspective of the outsider art piece.

The Vineyard Theatre's Annual Emerging Artists Luncheon was just held at the National Arts Club, featuring the presentation of the 2016-2017 Paula Vogel Playwriting Award by Paula Vogel to Kate Tarker (THUNDERBODIES), who began her residency last fall.

Abingdon Theatre Company continues its Ghostlight Reading Series with readings of THE SUBJECT by Chisa Hutchinson and directed by Jade King Carroll on Monday, June 5th at 7pm and CARLO AT THE WEDDING by Bryna Turner and directed by Jenna Worsham on Monday, June 12th at 7pm.

A bi-lingual (English and Spanish) adaptation of August Strindberg's classic, 'Miss Julie,' titled 'Miss Julia,' will have its New York Premiere this coming June 8th at the famed La MaMa Experimental Theatre on the Lower East Side. The production is Presented by La MaMa and is a production of Vueltas Bravas Producciones/Mitchell Productions, Inc.

Now celebrating its 20th year, id Theater returns to McCall, Idaho with the Seven Devils Playwrights Conference, with events from June 8 to 17 at McCall's Alpine Playhouse. This will be the 17th year for the Conference, which will host nine playwrights from all corners of the United States whose work will be developed and presented to the public free of charge during the Conference.
