The final Live in HD broadcast of the Met Opera’s 2022-2023 season is approaching! Die Zauberflöte (Mozart) comes to the big screen of the Ridgefield Playhouse on Saturday, June 3, 2023 at 1pm as part of the FirstLight Home Care Classical Series. 

Ivo van Hove, the Tony Award–winning director of Broadway’s A View from the Bridge, is making a major Met debut with Mozart’s Don Giovanni (May 5–June 2), re-setting the familiar tale of deceit and damnation in an abstract architectural landscape and shining a light into the work’s dark corners. Mozart's Die Zauberflöte (May 19–June 10), one of opera's most beloved works, receives its first new Met staging in 19 years from acclaimed English director Simon McBurney. In his Met debut, McBurney lets loose a volley of theatrical flourishes, incorporating projections, aerial and sound effects, physical comedy, a hovering platform, and acrobatics to match the spectacle and drama of Mozart's work. Maestro Nathalie Stutzmann—having made her Met debut earlier this season with Don Giovanni—performs Mozart double duty leading both productions running simultaneously. With the pit raised, the Met Orchestra musicians will interact with the cast. Gareth Morrell conducts the May 27 performance.

The Metropolitan Opera will close out its 2022–23 season with Don Giovanni, starting May 5, and Die Zauberflöte, starting May 19. Nathalie Stutzmann will make her Met debut as conductor of both works, with Ivo van Hove directing Don Giovanni and Simon McBurney staging Die Zauberflöte—also both making their Met debuts.
