The Dance Complex Presents CATALYSTS For Three Weekends In January

For a second year, 2016-17 CATALYSTS! artists-in-residence will perform at The Dance Complex for three weekends in January. This year's artists, Ryan P. Casey, Lorraine Chapman, Junichi Fukuda, Yosi Karahashi, and Doppelganger Dance Collective (DDC): Danielle Davidson and Shura Baryshnikov, represent classic and hybrid forms including tap, modern, and flamenco.

See history in the making as the next generation from the great Baryshnikov family travels from Providence RI to open the festival with an original contemporary duet. Joining them on stage is the dynamic duo, former Spectrum Dancers, Shadou Mintrone and Derek Crescenti. They return to Seattle from New York to present their latest collaboration, a new untitled work.

Seattle International Dance Festival to Kick Off in June

June bursts with contemporary dance as the Seattle International Dance Festival (SIDF) brings its bold mix of global and local artists to the South Lake Union neighborhood for a 16-day dance profusion. For this eleventh anniversary year, the festival expands its footprint by adding Capitol Hill's Broadway Performance Hall as the venue for some of the Inter|National and Spotlight Series programs. The popular, and free, Art on the Fly moves to May 21 to sync with the SLU Market. This coordinated effort between SIDF, Amazon.com and the SLU Chamber is expected to enliven the evolving, vibrant neighborhood all day long. As in previous years, evening indoor festival performances kickoff at SLU's Raisbeck Hall; third week evening performances are inside Capitol Hill's larger Broadway Performance Hall.

FirstWorks' Artistic Icons Series hosts British dance phenomenon BalletBoyz on the kick-off weekend for their return tour to U.S. on January 31, 2016 at The Vets. BalletBoyz, one of the most original and innovative companies in contemporary dance, thrill audiences and critics with their distinctive style: no tutus, just pure athleticism. The brainchild of two former Royal Ballet dancers Michael Nunn and William Trevitt, BalletBoyz are characterized by muscularity, ferocity, grace and elegance. BalletBoyz conclude the tour with a seven performance run in New York City.

FirstWorks to Premiere Lostwax Multimedia Dance's ZOOLOGIC

As part of their mission to build community through world-class performing arts and education programs, FirstWorks presents Zoologic, a World Premiere work from Providence's own Lostwax Multimedia Dance. Voted 'Rhode Island's best dance company' in a Providence Phoenix 2011 Readers' Poll, Lostwax has toured across the U.S., in Europe and Asia, and has regularly sold-out its Providence performances for FirstWorks. Zoologic launches in a three-day premiere run at RISD Auditorium on April 10, 11 at 8 p.m. and April 12 at 4 p.m., 2015. The Wilbury Theatre Group has announced a production of Tom Stoppard's tragi-comedic masterpiece Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead. The celebrated playwright's work takes dark and hilarious look at art, life, and the world from the point of view of Hamlet's ill-fated school chums, Rosencrantz and Guildenstern. Directed by Wilbury Group Artistic Director Josh Short with music by Marc Kaplan, this reimagined production features Joshua Andrews and Patrick Saunders in the titular roles, with David Tessier as the Player.
