Recording Academy Announces Industry-Wide Initiative To Expand Opportunities For Female Producers and Engineers

Today, the Recording Academy's Task Force on Diversity and Inclusion announced an unprecedented new initiative that aims to expand opportunities for female music producers and engineers. The Producer & Engineer Inclusion Initiative is the inaugural action of a larger strategy to address gender inequity in the music industry. According to a 2018 USC Annenberg Inclusion Initiative study, only 2 percent of music producers and 3 percent of engineers/mixers across popular music are women. This initiative is the first step in a broader effort to improve those numbers and increase diversity and inclusion for all in the music industry.

After a long and incredible year, releasing their debut LP and touring the world, Starcrawler are returning home with a brand-new single entitled “Hollywood Ending”, out now…it's fantastically catchy and a great glimpse into what their next album might bring. 'Hollywood Ending” was mixed by Nick Launay (Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Arcade Fire, Nick Cave, Kate Bush, David Byrne) and produced by Ryan Adams and the b-side 'Tank Top”,  was produced by Nick Launay.

South by Southwest Music Festival Announces First Wave of Artists

The South by Southwest® Music Festival (SXSW®) has announced the initial list of Showcasing Artists invited to perform at the 2019 event. Each year, the festival hosts a curated mix of up-and-coming and legendary artists from around the world, performing in intimate clubs as well as renowned music venues. These up-close interactions in front of industry professionals and influencers, international media and music fans allow artists and other attendees the opportunity to advance their creative and career objectives. The SXSW Music Festival's 33rd annual event takes place Monday, March 11 - Sunday, March 17, 2019 in downtown Austin, Texas.

GIRLSCHOOL Expands Women-Forward Music Festival To NYC October 6-7

GIRLSCHOOL, the highly popular L.A.-based interdisciplinary festival celebrating women-identified artists, thinkers, professionals and creators, is expanding to New York City. It will take place at Industry City Courtyard 1/2 (274 36th Street) in Brooklyn on October 6-7, in partnership with Girlie Action and City Farm Presents. GIRLSCHOOL is a music festival and creative community based in Los Angeles, whose mission is to celebrate, connect, and lift women-identified artists, leaders, and voices. Fans will recall GIRLSCHOOL LA 2018 is where the viral video of Fiona Apple performing alongside Shirley Manson in a homemade “KNEEL, PORTNOW” shirt took place. Festival line-up coming soon.

Garbage Announce US Tour in Support of 20th Anniversary Edition of Version 2.0

Garbage today announced a short US tour in support of the recently announced 20th anniversary edition of their legendary second album Version 2.0. The tour, which kicks off on September 29th in Seattle, WA and wraps on October 27th in Brooklyn, NY, will see them perform the classic album in full, as well as a number of B-sides from the reissue. Tickets for the tour will be on sale at 10:00am local time on April 27th and be available HERE. A complete list of upcoming US tour dates can be found below.

GIRLSCHOOL's third annual 100% women-identified-fronted three-day music and ideas festival will take place at the Bootleg Theater in Los Angeles from February 2 – 4, 2017. The lineup includes Shirley Manson + The Girlschool Choir, Jay Som, Kristin Kontrol + The Kids (with special guests including Best Coast), Leikeli47, Moon Honey, Mereba, Amber Coffman, BOSCO, Boyfriend, FAARROW, Lauren Ruth Ward, Soccer Mommy, Low Leaf, Akua, Pinky Pinky, A.W., Mary Lattimore, Nick + Navi, Drum & Lace, Desi Mo, Chelsea Jade, and Polartropica. DJ sets by Zuri Adia, Rituals of Mine, and Kim + The Created. New lineup additions include a cameo by Best Coast, plus sets by Bosco, Leikeli47,  and Lesser Pieces, and DJ sets by Erika Kayne, Myra Hasson, Denise Hewitt, and Rachael Pazdan (The Hum). Speakers include Carrie Brownstein, a poetry stage curated by Jack Jones Literary Arts, a panel on activism led by Whitney Bell, a Talking Circle by STRONGER, a panel on immigration and creativity by Eve Barlow, and a songwriting workshop by MUNA. Net proceeds will benefit WriteGirl.
