BroadwayWorld is sad to report that legendary playwright Neil Simon has died at 91. 

Berlanti Productions and Jessica Queller will present an exclusive one-night-only reading of Terms of Endearment at the Geffen Playhouse, it was announced today. All proceeds from the fundraiser will benefit Stand Up To Cancer and Geffen Playhouse's New Play Development Program.

From the high-spirited bustling and gritty streets of 1960s New York City comes the Tony Award-winning Broadway phenomenon, SWEET CHARITY, continuing Marriott Theatre's sensational 2018 season, running September 5 through October 28 with a press opening on Wednesday, September 12 at 7:30 p.m. at 10 Marriott Drive, Lincolnshire.

Built in 1913 as the flagship for the big time vaudeville circuit run by E.F. Albee and Martin Beck, manager of the Western Vaudeville Managers Association, the Palace was the perfect showplace for the biggest of big time vaudeville during the last two decades of its existence.

Robert Molloy, grandson of George Steinbrenner, Kristian Krempel, President of FX Group and Joseph Restaino, Partner, Character Brigade have joined forces to create Pinstripe Productions, LLC, a new production company based in Florida. Pinstripe will focus on bringing film production back to the Sunshine State. Molloy, Krempel and Restaino will each retain the title of Partner in the new venture. The company's first project is currently in development and will start filming in the fall with a release planned for 2020.

This coming Saturday, August 4 that 1:00pm, Kevin Winkler, the author of the recently acclaimed book, BIG DEAL: Bob Fosse and Dance in the American Musical, will introduce the film "SWEET CHARITY" at the Quad Cinema, 34 West 13th St NYC 10011. The film is part of the current Bob Fosse film series. This screening will be the uncut, original roadshow version of the film, that starred Shirley MacLaine, Chita Rivera, John McMartin, Sammy Davis, Jr., Stubby Kaye, Paula Kelly, Ben Vereen. This was Fosse's first film that he directed. The film received three Academy Award nominations.

Arthur Laurents was best known for his work as librettist on Gypsy and West Side Story, but was also well known as a playwright, having won a Tony Award® for Hallelujah, Baby! in 1968. Later as a director, he was Tony-nominated for Gypsy in 1975 (and the 2008 revival) as well as the original 1984 La Cage Aux Folles.

BroadwayWorld has learned Alan Johnson, the choreographer best known for his work on West Side Story, as well as The Producers and other Mel Brooks films, has passed away in his sleep this morning.

REPRISE 2.0 (led by Producing Artistic Director Marcia Seligson), in association with the UCLA School of Theater, Film and Television's Department of Theater (UCLA TFT) chaired by Brian Kite, presents its inaugural production of Sweet Charity.  Directed and choreographed by Kathleen Marshall with musical direction by Gerald Sternbach, the classic Broadway hit plays through July 1 at UCLA's Freud Playhouse. In accepting her award, she said, 'I wouldn't trade my life in the theatre for anything, because theatre is life.' The legendary triple-threat closed her speech saying, 'There's still a lot of salt left in this shaker.'

Chita Rivera has won the 2018 Tony Award for Lifetime Achievement Award.
