Legendary jazz singer and lyricist Jon Hendricks, dubbed 'The Poet Laureate of Jazz,' celebrated jazz vocalist and actress Annie Ross, and acclaimed jazz singer Janis Siegel are among the artists who will be honored at the 31st Annual Bistro Awards gala tonight, March 8 at 6:30 pm at the Gotham Comedy Club, 208 W. 23rd St. As is the Bistro Awards tradition, the evening will feature performances by the winners.

This past weekend, 13th Street Playhouse played host to a room of some of New York's female power players with Wisdom Voices: Women in the Theatre and Over 50. The panel included Broadway veteran Polly Adams; Emmy-winner Ellen Parker; actress & playwright Leigh Curran; actress & scholar Heather Rasche; performer & playwright Shellen Lubin; actress & fine artist Leah Friedman; actress, playwright & performance artist Elizabeth Hess; and veteran playwright & producing artists director of the 13th Rep Susan Merson.

After a powerful run on the West Coast, winning the Encore! Producers Award at the Hollywood Fringe Festival and getting raves in the Huffington Post as well as a powerful article by Patrick Hickey in ReviewFix, Leigh Curran brings this riveting work to NYC as part of the legendary 13th Street Repertory Playhouse's 2015 season. Susan Merson, Producing Artistic Director of the Thirteenth Street Repertory Theatre has assembled a passionate group of artists for this musicalized version of her Gothic-style play, BETWEEN PRETTY PLACES, about the choices a central California family must make when they are thrust into supernatural circumstances. Directed by John Hadden, a founding member of the Berkshires' well-respected Shakespeare & Company, and featuring Ellen Parker, Philip Callen, Julie Fitzpatrick, Jemma Kosanke, and Heather Rasche.

Celebrated playwright Susan Merson offers up a trilogy of evocative works that walk the oft-rocky road of relationship: WHOLE AGAINST THE SKY - Sara & Jake begin by reminiscing about their marriage as rehearsal for their loss; RON THE CONTORTIONIST - then we follow Sara through the rigors of midlife dating; THIRD ACT - and finally we join her return to a small house in France where she learned her biggest lesson, and shares her biggest secret. The Women in the Arts and Media Coalition, Inc. will present the 2015 Collaboration Award recognizing Women Working With Women. This is the fifth Collaboration Award presented by the Women in the Arts & Media Coalition, whose mission is to focus the power of its member organizations together and to use that combined strength to address issues of concern to women in the arts, media, and new media. The Coalition is committed to being the link between its member organizations as they work together to impact the various topics that affect women in our industry through advocacy, networking, and events.

Jazz headliner Carol Fredette and Tony Award-winning actress and singer Lillias White will be among the eleven performers honored at the 30th Annual Bistro Awards gala, which recognizes outstanding achievement in New York cabaret, jazz, and comedy. The celebration will take place on Wednesday, March 4, at 6:30pm at Gotham Comedy Club, 208 W. 23rd Street.

Stephen Schwartz, the Oscar, Tony, Grammy, and Golden Globe-winning composer/lyricist, who wrote the scores to such musicals as Pippin, Wicked, Godspell, and The Magic Show, will present Ben Vereen, the Tony Award-winning actor-singer-dancer, with the Lifetime Achievement Award.

And Dee Dee Bridgewater, who recently starred as Billie Holiday in the acclaimed Off-Broadway play 'Lady Day' and who can be listened to twice weekly in her own programs on the all-jazz nonprofit radio station WBGO, will present Amy Niles, acting president and CEO of the Newark-based station, with its award.

The celebration will take place on Tuesday, March 4 at Gotham Comedy Club, 208 W. 23rd St. (between 7th & 8th avenues).

The Women in the Arts & Media Coalition has announced the winners of the 2013 Collaboration Awards. The Collaboration Awards, which recognize women who successfully collaborate across disciplines to create new and influential work, will be presented at the Awards Gala tonight, October 24th at Baruch Performing Arts Center's Engelman Auditorium in New York City. Madeleine Smithberg, Emmy and Peabody Award winning co-creator and original executive producer of The Daily Show with Jon Stewart, will keynote the evening's Gala.
