Stephen DeAngelis will continue his ongoing salute to Broadway and Off-Broadway Standbys, Understudies and Alternates with the next edition of AT THIS PERFORMANCE…™ to be held on Monday, June 20th  at The Green Room 42, Green Fig, Fourth Floor, Yotel NYC, 570 Tenth Avenue (at 42nd Street), New York, NY 10036 at 7 PM.

On Friday, June 3, I had the pleasure of seeing PETER AND THE STAR CATCHER at the Ridgefield Theater Barn in Ridgefield, CT.  This play with music was written by Rick Elise.  This stellar cast’s talents come alive under the first-rate team of director Katherine Ray, assistant director Rae Janeil Sutherland and choreographer Sharon Houk.   It is not a musical in the traditional sense, but the use of song is incorporated throughout, resembling a musical in certain parts.  It is obvious that these cast members are having a wonderful time up on stage, bringing positive energy that radiates throughout the audience, with excellent stage chemistry between the cast.

Decay, obsession and Ophiocordyceps unilateralis, the “zombie fungus.” The 92nd Street Y, New York Harkness Dance Center's 2021-22 Mainstage Series closes with Jonathan Fredrickson's GOODBYE MONTANA, an evening-length world premiere dance theater piece with music by Oleg Stepanov. Not limited to conventional dance, the piece includes text and physical theater.

The majesty and magic of Ella Fitzgerald performing live is brought to vivid life in the new animated video for the incredible, one-of-a-kind performance of her beloved tune, “Cheek To Cheek,” recorded live at the Hollywood Bowl on August 16, 1958 with a full orchestra, conducted and arranged by Paul Weston.

The next show at the Mark Taper Forum, Rajiv Joseph’s King James world premieres June 8, 2022 (with previews starting June 1st). Kenny Leon directs this co-production of Center Theatre Group and Steppenwolf Theatre Company starring Glenn Davis and Chris Perfetti. Glenn took some time to answer a few of my queries on King James, being co-artistic director at Steppenwolf Theatre and working with a one-of-a-kind co-star.

Mabou Mines will present a 50th Anniversary Celebration of Work, reaching back into the company’s brimming five-decade history of innovative theater as a launchpad into the next 50 years (June 23–25; beginning 5pm June 23; 5pm–11 pm June 24; and 12pm–11pm June 25).

Cat On A Hot Tin Roof, in a new production by Ruth Stage, will play The Theater at St. Clements (423 W. 46th Street) beginning previews July 15, and opening night is set for July 24. The original scheduled run of this production, which had been announced for January, 2022, was postponed due to the ongoing health crisis.
