The Public and Joe's Pub Begin Previews BLACK LIGHT February 12

The Public Theater begin previews of Black Light, starring Jomama Jones, the alter ego of Daniel Alexander Jones, on Monday, February 12 in Joe's Pub at The Public. Black Light is a moving, music-laden work - a revival of sorts - for turbulent times. Created by Jones, the show features original music by Jomama, Laura Jean Anderson, Bobby Halvorson, Dylan Meek and Josh Quat with music direction by Samora Abayomi Pinderhughes. Performances begin Monday, February 12 and run through Sunday, March 25, with an official press opening on Sunday, February 25.

Joe's Pub at The Public announces the new class of Joe's Pub Working Group (JPWG), the venue's artist development program dedicated to enhancing the career sustainability and growth of performing artists. Entering its fourth year, JPWG welcomes five artists - playwright and songwriter Dan Fishback, classically trained bandleader Juliette Jones, violinist and composer Dana Lyn, jazz composer and pianist Samora Abayomi Pinderhughes and cabaret darling Tori Scott - as the core group that represents the diversity and scope of the nightly programming at Joe's Pub.

The Orpheum Theatre Group is pleased to announce that President & CEO Brett Batterson has been named NAPAMA's (North American Performing Arts Managers and Agents) 2017 Presenter of the Year. The official awards presentation will take place at the Association of Performing Arts Professionals' (APAP) annual conference on Monday, January 15, 2018 at the New York Hilton Midtown. Batterson's award will be presented by NAPAMA president, David Wannen.

In 2018, Joe's Pub at The Public will launch The Vanguard Residency, a new award and yearlong monthly series that celebrates the work and influence of an icon of American popular culture but also responds to the music industry's diminishing revenue streams by offering a grant of $50,000. The inaugural recipient of this award is Grammy Award-nominated, art- and funk-rock pioneer Nona Hendryx, who is honored for her career as a performer, producer, writer, curator and mentor. Hendryx dedicates the series to fearlessness, revolution (creative and cultural), freedom of expression and innovation; the things that have defined her own career.

Joe's Pub at The Public partners, once again, with Philadelphia's renowned Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts for the Kimmel Center Theater Residency. Under the guidance of Jay Wahl, Producing Artistic Director of the Kimmel Center, and Shanta Thake, Director of Joe's Pub, the intensive program serves as an incubator for artists and collaborators to create and develop innovative new musical theater projects and music. The program will be held in the Kimmel Center's SEI Innovation Studio (300 South Broad Street, Philadelphia, PA) from June 5-18 with free public workshops with audience feedback and Q&A on June 16 and 17.

The brainchild of Metropolitan Room managing partner Bernie Furshpan, his General Manager Joseph Macchia, and Cabaret Scenes Magazine Publisher Peter Leavy, New York's first International Cabaret Festival (February 17-21) debuted Wednesday night at the Met Room with performances and inductions into the newly established Cabaret Hall of Fame (an actual location for Hall and its memorabilia to be determined at a later date). Due to popular demand, Joe's Pub at The Public extends the reunion run of Kiki and Herb, the legendary and fanatically-loved cabaret duo brought to life by Mx Justin Vivian Bond and Kenny Mellman, for two weeks. Born in 1992 in San Francisco and retired in 2007 in New York City, the 'perverse' and 'transcendental' (The New York Times) septuagenarian lounge-singers will debut a new show entitled Seeking Asylum!, which will now run from April 21-May 22, 9:30PM, for a total of 21 performances.

As part of the artist commissioning program New York Voices, Joe's Pub at The Public presents Estuary: an artist/mother story, a new show conceived and written by Jamie Leonhart and directed by Joanna Settle. Estuary's original music is co-written and arranged by Grammy-winner Michael Leonhart. This presentation of Estuary features a live band that includes Saskia Lane, Pauline Kim, Sara Phillips Budde and Katie Scheele. Performances will run Monday through Wednesday, November 1-3 at 7:00PM at Joe's Pub at The Public (425 Lafayette, NYC). Monstah Black to Receive Dixon Place 2015 Tommy Award This Sept

Dixon Place announced the recipient of the 3rd Annual Tom Murrin Performance Award, also known as 'The Tommy.' A transformative career opportunity for an emerging NYC-based artist or company, the 2015 award will be presented to Monstah Black, a multi-disciplinary performance artist known for his funk-style musical creations. The 3rd Annual Tommy Award presentation will take place at the Howl! Happening Gallery (6 East 1st Street) on Sunday, September 27, 2015 at 5pm as part of the Luna Macaroona Full Moon Performance Series. The event is free to attend.
