BWW Review: Will on the Hill and Far Away at Shakespeare Theatre Company

“What’s past is prologue” Prospero says in The Tempest, but when the present passes into the past what’s left is Will on the Hill and Far Away, the earnest and frequently successful effort by Congressmen to do Shakespeare funny. In this annual exercise, designed to raise funds for arts education, members of both Houses, as well as various other political luminaries (Washington is crawling with them), put themselves in preposterous situations which magically turn out well, just as characters in the Bard’s plays often do.

Playwrights Pearl Cleage, Rickerby Hinds, Nambi E. Kelley, Dominic Taylor and Charlayne Woodard comprise the inaugural writers of The Lincoln Legacy Commissions.

BWW Review: Simon Godwin's Production of ROMEO AND JULIET

The thing about Romeo and Juliet – but you know this, Grasshopper – is that it isn’t a love story – not at all, not even a little bit. It is rather a story of desperation, ego and self-regard. Juliet is a thirteen-year-old girl who has just been given the alarming news that she will be forced to marry a man she’s never met.

Shakespeare Theatre Company to Reopen its Doors With Donmar Warehouse's BLINDNESS

On 5/1, Shakespeare Theatre Company will open the doors of Sidney Harman Hall for the first time in over a year for the Donmar Warehouse's sound and light installation Blindness. In an experience where the audience is onstage, but actors are not, socially distanced patrons wear binaural headphones plunging them into the dystopic world of Blindness.

Guest Blog: Simon Godwin on Birthing Shakespeare's Verona Afresh on Film

Simon Godwin knows his way around a Shakespeare text. Among his National Theatre credits are memorable productions of Twelfth Night, starring Tamsin Greig, and Antony and Cleopatra, which won Evening Standard Theatre Awards for both Ralph Fiennes and Sophie Okonedo. But when the pandemic hit, plans for a major revival in the Olivier auditorium of Romeo and Juliet, starring Josh O'Connor and Jessie Buckley, had to shift gears, and fast.
