On Monday, January 21, Stephen Wallem, the actor/singer best known for his role as Thor on the Emmy-winning television series "Nurse Jackie" stormed the Broadway at Birdland stage with Schwartz And All, a musical tribute to composer Stephen Schwartz.
On Tuesday, January 22nd, members of the Broadway company of Evita joined forces with Sing For Your Seniors to bring a very special performance to the seniors at Village Adult Day Health Center. The musical performance, hosted by Sing For Your Seniors' Executive Director Jackie Vanderbeck, included songs of the performers' choosing as well of songs from Evita. On Monday, January 7, songwriting team Marcy Heisler and Zina Goldrich came together for the 13th Broadway at Birdland 'Marcy & Zina Show' musical extravaganza, co-starring their friends Scott Coulter, David Beach, Jill Abramovitz, Jennifer Jones, Christine Pedi and Noah Galvin. The band included Mike Croiter on drums, Clay Ruede on cello and Pete Donovan on bass.

On Monday, December 17, the monthly "Frank & Friends" concert took place as part of the Broadway at Birdland concert series. Once again, multi-Grammy and Tony nominated composer and host Frank Wildhorn gathered some of his talented pals to sing his pop and theater songs, but this night was extra-special. Over the past few months, Wildhorn has used the concerts to raise funds for The Actors Fund, so to celebrate the years end, he presented a check for $4000 to the Fund's Tim Pinckney.

The Broadway at Birdland concert series presented Ashley Brown in concert on Monday, November 19 at 7pm. The show - Ashley Brown: Call Me Irresponsible - featured many of Ms. Brown's favorite songs from Broadway and the American Songbook, including selections from her PBS Special, which received a Telly Award. This week's 'episode' of Jim Caruso's Cast Party started off with a bang, as the National Yiddish Theater Company's cast of The Golden Land stormed the stage with two wonderful songs. Not to be outdone, Mira Awad came all the way from Israel to serenade the sold-out house with a song from her native land.
"Strippers and Satchmo and guys who sing gospel' sounds like a bastardized Rodgers and Hart lyric, but it helps explain the variety of talent that showed up for Jim Caruso's Cast Party at Birdland on Monday evening. David Phelps, the award-winning tenor best known for his work with the Gaither Vocal Band absolutely thrilled the crowd with "You'll Never Walk Alone" and "Nessun Dorma" (a Birdland first). Jeremy Giraud Abram is currently portraying jazz legend Louis Armstrong at Theater 3 in Manhattan, and impressed everyone with his "Wonderful World." Jaymes and James, Chippendales dancers from Las Vegas currently heating up small screens on "The Amazing Race," charmed the room and gained even more fans! Adan Canto, starring in the new Fox thriller, "The Following," is not just another good looking TV star…he's a first-rate singer. Australian bff's Matthew Newton and Matt Baker performed a gorgeous standard together. Dawn Derow showed off her musical stuff, and promoted her upcoming cabaret act. William Blake sang the blues, like he will at his upcoming Sidewalk Cafe gig. The Cast Party Symphony Orchestra (Tedd Firth, Steve Doyle & Daniel Glass) accompanied the extraordinary talent into the wee hours, as they do every single Monday night.
Daisy Eagan is full of surprises. Her Monday night concert was a crazy quilt of songs and stories culminating in one very big announcement that was a first for the Broadway at Birdland stage! That's right, Mary Lennox is having a baby! Of course, Daisy has been known as a full-grown, smart-talking gal-of-the-world for some time now, but to some, she'll always be that adorable kid who won the Tony at age 11.

Not only has Natalie Douglas broken the record for playing the Broadway at Birdland stage; this past week, she went one step further - literally. She fractured her fibula a few hours before her "Freedom Songs" concert. Of course, that didn't stop her from performing, perched on a stool with her bare foot wrapped in ice!
