On Monday night, multi-Grammy and Tony-nominated composer Frank Wildhorn brought his fourth monthly concert, "Frank & Friends," to the Broadway at Birdland stage.
Monday night's episode of Jim Caruso's Cast Party was like a modern-day "Ed Sullivan Show," thanks to a wide array of wonderful talent. From 11-year-old jazz trumpet player Geoff Gallante, who played and crooned "Bare Necessities," to "Beauty And The Geek" star Richard Rubin, the 'extreme open mic' entertained the packed house into the wee hours.
On Monday, August 27, cabaret star Jeff Harnar took to the Broadway at Birdland stage with a new show, "Does This Song Make Me Look Fat?" The packed house included theater and cabaret stars like Elaine Stritch, Lilliane Montevecchi, Julie Wilson, Holt McCallany, Hunter Ryan Herdlicka, Klea Blackhurst, Billy Stritch, Clint Holmes, Natalie Douglas, Colleen McHugh, Faith Prince, Mark Waldrop, fashion icon Carmen Dell'Orefice, writer Gay Talese and Best Little Whorehouse songwriter Carol Hall.
Jim Caruso's Cast Party continues to pack 'em in at Birdland every Monday night at 9:30. This past week, August 20th, the 'extreme' open mic night was booked solid with spectacular talent. Back by popular demand to the Broadway at Birdland concert series, William Blake performed an encore of his show "Echoes of Etta," a musical tribute to Etta James, on Monday, August 20th. Yesterday, August 13, Broadway at Birdland presented multi-Grammy and Tony-nominated composer Frank Wildhorn in his monthly concert series called "Frank & Friends." Joining Frank onstage were Constantine Maroulis (upcoming star of Jekyll & Hyde), Laura Osnes (Tony nominee/Bonnie & Clyde and upcoming Cinderella), Melissa van Der Schyff (Bonnie & Clyde) and Stark Sands (upcoming Kinky Boots).
A beautiful benefit concert called "In Full Bloom" was staged at Birdland on Monday night - created by Ryan Murray and starring incredible Broadway types like Clarke Thorell, Destan Owens, Nikki M. James, Aaron Lazaar, Nick Adams, and Ramona Keller. Joel Waggoner was musical director. The event raised money for The Wishing Kids Foundation, an organization that provides support for people with terminal illnesses. Obviously, with that cast, the singing was gorgeous and heartfelt, the stories were touching, and the crowd was thrilled to meet and hear some of their favorite performers.

On Monday, July 16, Broadway at Birdland was proud to present another "Frank & Friends," a monthly concert hosted by multi-Grammy and Tony nominated composer Frank Wildhorn. Joining Frank onstage was the gifted Grammy-nominated jazz singer Jane Monheit, Las Vegas and Cafe Carlyle headliner Clint Holmes, and a band that included David Mann on woodwinds, Chris Lightcap on bass and Clint de Ganon on drums. The historic room was packed with showbiz glitterati, including Chita Rivera (upcoming Drood), Ben Vereen, Constantine Maroulis (upcoming Jekyll & Hyde), Sara Gettelfinger (Addams Family tour), Patrick Page (Spiderman: Turn Off The Dark), and Paige Davis (host of the upcoming talk show "Home & Family").
On Monday, June 25, the Broadway at Birdland concert series was presented songwriter Jack Lechner and a very talented cast of singers to the historic stage. Singing Lechner's songs and praises were Nancy Anderson, Chris Critelli, Desmond Dutcher, Jeannine Frumess, Andy Monroe, Jeremy Schonfeld, Lucas Steele, and Karen Ziemba, with musical direction by Boko Suzuki. Lechner is best known for his 2010 off-Broadway musical The Kid, co-written with composer Andy Monroe and librettist Michael Zam.
On Monday night, the Broadway at Birdland concert series was proud to present Jeremy Kushnier in concert. His special musical guests included former leading ladies Jennifer Laura Thompson, Tarea Campbell, wife Jenny Lee Stern and his co-star in the current Broadway production of Jesus Christ Superstar, Paul Nolan. Sonny Paladino was musical director for the evening.
On Monday, May 28, YouTube sensation, chanteuse and high-end vocal coach Miranda Sings made her tenth sold-out concert appearance as part of the Broadway at Birdland series. Seth Rudetsky acted as musical director/pianist, jazz violinist Aaron Weinstein got some brush-up suggestions from 'violimnist' Miranda, and Adam Pascal, currently starring on Broadway in Memphis, subjected himself to the diva's sensitive and pitch-perfect critiques. As always, the show was filled with improvisation, a few hit songs, magic tricks, and dramatic readings of the lady's own hate mail. The wacked-out superstar (in reality, California native Colleen Ballinger) continues to perform her one-woman show in sold-out nightclubs and theaters in New York, London, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Miami, Chicago, Dublin, and Sydney.
