SDCF has announced the host theatre for its 2023 Lloyd Richards New Futures Residency program: St. Louis Black Repertory Co (The Black Rep) in St. Louis, MO. Applications are being accepted now for a Resident Artist, who will be mentored by The Black Rep's Producing Director Ron Himes for one year while also undertaking their own artistic projects at the host theatre.

SDCF Announces Host Venues for Lloyd Richards New Futures Residency Program

SDCF has announced two host venues for its Lloyd Richards New Futures Residency program: Cornerstone Theater Company in Los Angeles; and Oregon Shakespeare Festival in Ashland, Oregon. The company’s respective artistic directors, Michael John Garcés and Nataki Garrett, will each mentor a visionary mid-career Black director or choreographer.

New BENNY & JOON Musical Begins Tonight at The Old Globe

The Old Globe presents the first show of its 2017-2018 Season, the world premiere musical Benny & Joon, with book by Kirsten Guenther, music by Nolan Gasser, and lyrics by Mindi Dickstein. Based on the beloved 1993 Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer motion picture written by Barry Berman and Leslie McNeil, Benny & Joon is directed by Jack Cummings III, Artistic Director of New York's Transport Group.

JACQUES BREL IS ALIVE AND WELL & LIVING IN PARIS Plays in English at The Gladstone This November

Sacrilege? Not according to the famous singer, actor, and songwriter Brel himself, who loved this musical revue. This Off-Broadway success was created in 1968 by Mort Shuman and Eric Blau to showcase Brel's French hits-in English. Brel saw the show many times, and said that Shuman and Blau had lifted his songs away from him, and given them to the world. The show ran for five years, with a total of 1,847 performances. Meanwhile, its director opened a second production in Toronto that same year, which became the longest-running Off-Broadway show in Canada.

Transport Group Announces 2016-17 Season: PICNIC and COME BACK, LITTLE SHEBA - William Inge in Repertory

Drama Desk and OBIE-winning Transport Group will present Picnic and Come Back, Little Sheba: William Inge in Repertory, directed by Artistic Director Jack Cummings III, two plays in rotating repertory as the centerpiece of its 2016-17 season.  Performances begin Thursday, February 23 and run through Sunday, April 23 at the Gym at Judson, 243 Thompson Street.  The opening night has been set for Sunday, March 26.

The Eugene O'Neill Theater Center celebrated the 16th annual MonteCristo Award ceremony with a presentation of the honor to award-winning stage and film director, playwright, and actor George C. Wolfe on Monday night at the Edison Ballroom. The O'Neill annually bestows its Monte Cristo Award on a prominent theater artist whose lifetime work has had an extraordinary impact on American theater. The gala event supports the Center's commitment to developing new work and new artists for the stage.
