FRIENDSICAL, the hilarious parody musical written by Miranda Larson, will embark on a extensive UK tour, opening at the Everyman Theatre in Cheltenham on 15 July 2019 followed by: Darlington, Derry, Newcastle, Kingston, Malvern, Blackpool, Chelmsford, Southampton and Croydon. Friendsical will also enjoy a full run at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe from 1 - 25 August as part of the Assembly Festival programme in The Assembly Rooms' Music Hall.

Playing everyone's favourite friends are Jordan Fox (Joey), Sarah Goggin (Monica), Jamie Lee-Morgan (Ross), Thomas Mitchells (Chandler), Ally Retberg (Phoebe) and Charlotte Elisabeth York (Rachel). Jamie Wilson and the Leicester Curve's new production of Sister Act contains all of the ingredients for a smash-hit musical: a star director, a celebrity lead, a well-known, beloved story based on a popular film, and a plethora of sequins and catchy tunes.  Based on the 1992 film starring Whoopi Goldberg, Sister Act follows the story of Deloris Van Cartier, an aspiring Philadelphia club singer. When Doloris witnesses her mobster boyfriend Curtis commit murder, she rushes to the police and old high school friend, Eddie, hides her in the one place she surely won't be found: a convent. The Mother Superior abhors Deloris' outspoken and extravagant nature. However, Deloris soon forms a close bond with the other sisters, transforming their pitiful choir with soul and funk versions of their usual hymns. When the convent choir's growing popularity puts Deloris' safety at risk, the sisters and even Mother Superior risk everything to protect her. 

Based on the 1992 film starring Whoopi Goldberg, Sister Act premiered onstage in the West End in 2009 starring Patina Miller as Deloris Van Cartier and Sheila Hancock as the Mother Superior. The lavish production opened at the London Palladium to critical acclaim and has enjoyed many revivals across the globe ever since. The last major UK production was in 2010, starring the now Tony award-winning Cynthia Erivo which took the same format as the original production. Craig Revel Horwood's new take on the musical, produced by Jamie Wilson, opened officially at the Curve in Leicester last night before it begins its UK tour.

Gary Naylor sees a prison musical revived in a more suitable environment by a talented ensemble cast and impressive live band.

New British musical BEST OF FRIENDS, with book, music and lyrics by Nick Fogarty, will finally get its London premiere at the Landor Theatre, directed by the venue's artistic director, Robert McWhir, from Wednesday 23 April. Best of Friends was due in London last summer as The Golden Voice, starring Darren Day. Scheduled to open at the Arts Theatre, it was delayed multiple times before it was eventually cancelled. Actors' union Equity then launched legal action in an attempt to claim back unpaid cast wages.

Following a sold-out show at the Pheasantry, Been on Broadway makes its West End debut at the Duchess Theatre on Sunday October 13, featuring songs from Broadway musicals that haven't yet made it to the West End.

Due to investment money from China being tied up in international banking red tape, there was a delay to the opening of THE GOLDEN VOICE, a new British musical by singer-songwriter Nick Fogarty. The musical was originally planned to preview from Wednesday 12 June, and open on 19 June, but will now open at the Arts Theatre tonight, 26 July, previewing from 17 July. The limited season is still due to end on Saturday 31 August.
