Jerome Kern and Oscar Hammerstein II's Show Boat opened at The Glimmerglass Festival July 6 in the company's first-ever production of America's original "musical play."

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences is extending invitations to join the organization to 842 artists and executives who have distinguished themselves by their contributions to theatrical motion pictures. The 2019 class is 50% women, 29% people of color, and represents 59 countries. Those who accept the invitations will be the only additions to the Academy's membership in 2019.

Connecticut Repertory Theatre (CRT) presents the second and final show of the 2019 Nutmeg Summer Series: "Cabaret," the Tony-Award-winning musical centering around a German nightclub against the backdrop of the Nazis' rise to power. The cast will be led by Olivier Award-winner Laura Michelle Kelly (Broadway's "Mary Poppins," "Finding Neverland") as Sally Bowles and Tony Award-nominee Forrest McClendon ("The Scottsboro Boys") as the Emcee. They will be joined by three-time Tony Award-nominee Dee Hoty (Broadway's "The Will Rogers Follies," "Footloose") and Jonathan Brody (Broadway's "Spamalot," "A Bronx Tale"). Last night, Moulin Rouge! celebrated its first preview outside the Al Hirschfeld Theatre. Following the performance, the cast greeted fans on the fire escape and showered them with rose petals.

Pulitzer Prize-winning author Michael Chabon has been named Showrunner of the upcoming STAR TREK: PICARD series. Chabon is working closely on the day-to-day production of the series with Academy Award winner and veteran 'Star Trek' writer and producer Akiva Goldsman, and Alex Kurtzman, who continues to oversee the expansion of the growing 'Star Trek' universe for CBS Studios.

Festival of Cinema NYC proudly presents its 3rd annual, 10-day event taking place August 2nd to August 11th.
