San Francisco Playhouse to Present AS YOU LIKE IT Musical Beginning in November

San Francisco Playhouse will continue its 20th Anniversary season with the imaginative and exhilarating hit musical adaptation of William Shakespeare's As You Like It. Helmed by San Francisco Playhouse's Artistic Director Bill English with music direction by Dave Dobrusky and choreography by Nicole Helfer, As You Like It will perform November 17, 2022 – January 14, 2023.

Word for Word's Off the Page Staged Reading Series to Present Two Murakami Stories in October

Word for Word’s Off the Page Staged Reading Series 2022 continues on October 3 with two stories by Haruki Murakami The Second Bakery Attack and Bakery Attack. Stories that Word for Word theatrically presents are selected from Off the Page staged readings. This series is the public’s first look at pieces Word for Word is being considered for upcoming productions. 

Ferocious Lotus Sets 10th Anniversary Show For September

In celebration of its 10th Anniversary, Ferocious Lotus Theatre Company presents EVOLUTION, a festival of six original short plays exploring what it means to be Asian/Asian-American (initially slated to premiere in 2020). This show, a co-production with TheatreFirst, is the Company's first in-person production since the pandemic.

TheatreWorks Silicon Valley continues its 51st season with the hit musical Ragtime. This sweeping and stirring musical masterpiece paints a portrait of America at the dawn of the twentieth century, interweaving the lives of three families—an African American family, a Jewish Immigrant family, and a wealthy white family—finding their places and pursuing the American Dream in a rapidly changing world. Featuring a Tony Award-winning book by Pulitzer Prize finalist Terrence McNally (Master Class, Kiss of the Spider Woman, The Rink) and a Tony Award-winning score by Stephen Flaherty and Lynn Ahrens (Once on This Island, Anastasia, Seussical The Musical), this musical is based on E. L. Doctorow’s best-selling novel of the same name. Ragtime will be presented June 1-26, 2022 (press opening: June 4) at the Mountain View Center for the Performing Arts. TV, Film and Stage Producer Scott Robbe Dies at 66

Veteran progressive activist and TV-film-stage producer Scott Robbe died on Sunday, November 21, 2021, according to a statement by Paul Algiers, a longtime friend and the executor of Scott Robbe's estate. Robbe was in hospice care at the home of his sister, Angela, in Hartford, Wisconsin.

San Francisco Playhouse and the San Francisco Mime Troupe announced casting for The Great Khan by Michael Gene Sullivan, directed by Darryl V. Jones. The play, a National New Play Network Rolling World Premiere, is co-produced by San Francisco Playhouse and the San Francisco Mime Troupe and presented at the Playhouse's Mainstage at 450 Post Street.
