EAST SIDE STORIES Comes to Metropolitan Playhouse in May

Obie Award winner Metropolitan Playhouse presents a festival of five one-acts by Tom Lavagnino, Natalina Lopez, Christian Missonak, Bara Swain, and Jonathon Ward. The limited run from May 19 through May 29, 2022, plays at the Playhouse home at 220 E 4th Street.

Emerging Artists Theatre Presents CRAZY: FOR JONGHYUN

Emerging Artists Theatre will present CRAZY: for Jonghyun written by Susan W Chamberlin and directed by Graydon Gund. The workshop production is part of the 2022 New Work Series. Performance takes place at TADA Theatre in Manhattan on April 6, 7 pm. Also presented on April 6 are Within Us by NewBrese Dance and Main Character Syndrome by Kelsey Rondeau.

World Premiere of DETAINED Announced At The Fountain Theatre

How do families stay together, even when they are kept apart? The Fountain Theatre presents a gripping new docudrama, a compilation of true stories that explores the rippling impact of mass deportations on families. The world premiere of Detained, written by 2021 Lorraine Hansberry Award-winning playwright France-Luce Benson and directed by Mark Valdez, winner of the 2021 Zelda Fichandler Award, opens February 19 at the Fountain Theatre.

Ford's Theatre today announced the launch of The Lincoln Legacy Commissions—a new play development initiative for BIPOC (Black, Indigenous and People of Color) playwrights that explores racial history and social justice in the United States and gives voice to lesser-known historical figures and their contributions to American life. Playwrights Pearl Cleage, Rickerby Hinds, Nambi E. Kelley, Dominic Taylor and Charlayne Woodard comprise the inaugural writers of The Lincoln Legacy Commissions.

In what has become an annual ritual, a total of 40 established and emerging composers, lyricists, and librettists will converge on the Goodspeed campus from mid-January through mid-February 2020 to participate in the Johnny Mercer Foundation Writers Colony at Goodspeed Musicals. The writing teams, representing 15 new musicals, will populate the campus, creating a truly exciting environment for discovery and inspiration.

Normal Ave Announces NAPseries 2020
 Playwrights And Directors

Normal Ave will launch its 2nd Annual NAPSeries (Normal Ave Playwrights Series) with 29-hour readings of four brand new plays. This year's festival will include Men Accumulate by Peter Kim George, On Trash Monsters by Gillian Beth Durkee, Sarah Sits Shiva for Herself by Megan Pope, and Seven Letter Names by Kristian O'Hare. All readings will take place January 10-12 at Normal Ave's Medicine Show Theatre, located at 549 W 52nd Street, and are free and open to the public.

KCRep Launches 2019/2020 Readings In Popular Monday Night Playwright Series

Kansas City Repertory Theatre (KCRep), announced the full schedule for this season's popular Monday Night Playwright Series, which opened with BURIED ROOTS, its first play of the series, on Monday. The series features a line-up of new and returning playwrights including Michelle Tyrene Johnson, Darren Canady, James Still, Migdalia Cruz, Mashuq Mushtaq Deen and Ellen McLaughlin. These free public events take place on the UMKC campus at the Spencer Theatre Donor Lounge.

That is, until a persistent canvasser calls, desperate to convince her to vote absentee in the 2088 election.

Raven Theatre's SUNDOWN, YELLOW MOON Begins October 3

Raven Theatre launches its 2019-20 season with the Chicago premiere of Rachel Bonds' drama SUNDOWN, YELLOW MOON, featuring music and lyrics by The Bengsons, directed by Artistic Director Cody Estle with music direction by Andra Velis Simon. This warm and delicate play with music is an honest look at the hard work of holding a family together and reconnecting with what we've left behind. Casting will be announced shortly.

Athena Theatre Stages GOOD GRIEF

Athena Theatre will stage a workshop production of Kirt Shineman's play GOOD GRIEF September 11-15 at the Cell Theatre. Discovered through Athena Theatre's Athena Reads program in 2018, the play speaks out against mass violence and systemic injustice through the story of one mother's journey towards forgiveness.
