Houston Ballet Awarded New York Choreographic Institute Grant to Support New Work by Melissa Hough

Houston Ballet has been awarded a Fellowship Initiative grant from the New York Choreographic Institute, an affiliate of New York City Ballet, to support the development of new choreography by first soloist Melissa Hough in a studio setting.

The tenth anniversary season of Glorya Kaufman presents Dance at The Music Center continues with the U.S. debut of The National Ballet of Canada's "Alice's Adventures in Wonderland" choreographed by Christopher Wheeldon, music by Joby Talbot, at The Music Center's Dorothy Chandler Pavilion with live orchestra for five performances only October 19-21, 2012. Karen Kain is the Artistic Director of The National Ballet of Canada.

Nigel Redden, Director of Lincoln Center Festival, announced the Festival's line-up, which runs from tonight, July 5 through August 5, 2012. Theater offerings include Mikhail Baryshnikov in Dmitry Krymov's staging of a new play, In Paris, as well as Sydney Theatre Company's acclaimed production of Uncle Vanya directed by Tamas Ascher and adapted by Andrew Upton. Michael Riedel reports in today's New York Post that Lincoln Center Theater 'wants the Beaumont for its next big production - a revival of THE KING AND I starring Kelli O'Hara.' BroadwayWorld.com first reported back in 2011 that the theatre was considering a Bartlett Sher helmed revival of the classic show. O'Hara is currently starring opposite Matthew Broderick in NICE WORK IF YOU CAN GET IT.

Joyce Theater Selects Pacific Northwest Ballet for Nureyev Prize

The Joyce Theater Foundation today announced the selection of Pacific Northwest Ballet as its second recipient of The Rudolf Nureyev Prize for New Dance, a $25,000 commissioning grant established for the purpose of creating new works from large ballet companies, many of whom rarely perform in New York. The prize allows companies accustomed to performing large scale work to create new pieces for a smaller venue. In turn, the award provides audiences with the opportunity to experience these companies in the Joyce's intimate setting.

Inner Landscape, the latest offering in the company's innovative series of thematic performances including contextual media and narration, features the acclaimed Graham psychological works in which she laid bare the human psyche. There will be two programs presented by the company as well as a Family matinee show on Saturday-March 17 at 2:00pm. New works by Lar Lubovitch and Yvonne Rainer premiere on March 13 and 15 respectively. Both programs will open with an abstract film montage which overlays excerpts of Graham dancing her psychological works with moments from psychological films of the same era.

Two evenings of repertoire by one of the largest ballet companies in the U.S. will feature 'the best of both classic and contemporary ballet. The four pieces of choreography (three pieces per evening) include a piece anchored by a dazzling pas de deux (Rush), the first recipient of the Rudolf Nureyev Prize for New Dance (ONE/end/ONE), an examination of the vagaries of romantic relationships at warp speed (Indigo), and a beautiful and poignant one-act ballet portraying the relationships of three couples, evoking moods from romantic serenity to agitation and aggression (In the Night).'

The 2011-2012 season of Glorya Kaufman Presents Dance at the Music Center continues with Ballet du Grand Theatre de Geneve performing the Northern American premieres of "Les Sylphides" and "Spectre de la Rose" choreographed by acclaimed New York City Ballet dancer and choreographer Benjamin Millepied, widely known for his work in last year's award-winning film Black Swan.
