It is hard to believe that Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky's first ballet, Swan Lake, created in 1877 for the Bolshoi Theatre in Moscow, was a failure, so striking is its music's melodic power. It was not until twenty years later - but Tchaikovsky was already dead - that the ballet was brought to the stage in the choreography of Marius Petipa and Lev Ivanov.

Arts on Site will present JANIS BRENNER, dancer/singer/actress, in the premiere of her one-woman show She Remembers her Amnesia, based on true stories, and set to a musical score by Jerome Begin. Boston Ballet Artistic Director Mikko Nissinen announces the 2022–2023 season roster. The roster includes a diverse roster of dancers from around the world with 63 professional dancers. Five new dancers join the main company, six new dancers join Boston Ballet II (BBII), Boston Ballet’s second company, and eight Boston Ballet dancers received promotions for the upcoming season.

Robert John Weber, Jr., 63, passed away May 3rd in Wanaque, New Jersey. Born in Midland, Michigan, Robert was a dancer, actor and choreographer who performed on Broadway in Miss Saigon and Meet Me in St. Louis, in the Broadway national tour of Jerome Robbins Broadway and as principal soloist with multiple European ballet companies.

Jan Kooijman is set to star in the new Dutch play, Nureyev, based on the life of the world-famous ballet dancer Rudolf Nureyev, in February 2023. Producer De Theater BV announced the news today. The show is written by Allard Blom and directed by Martin Michel. The two-person show features choreography by Rinus Sprong. Nureyev will premiere on Tuesday 21 February 2023 at DeLaMar in Amsterdam.
