The Kennedy Center announces the inaugural Next Generation Leaders Scholarship, the newest initiative in the Center's ongoing efforts to increase arts leadership opportunities for historically underrepresented populations. The Next Generation Leaders Scholarship seeks to remove some of the systemic barriers that prevent talented individuals from entering the field of arts administration by offering a 10-week intensive training program, mentorship, and a $4,500 scholarship. The Randy Andys Holiday Fête brought sass and spirit in equal measure to Pangea last night. The 'girl group gone retro' is a singing trio of actresses (à la The Andrews Sisters) in rotating formations based on who is in town. They were in full swing last night with 9 of the Andys lending their voices, beauty, and charisma to the show, in addition to a couple of delightful holiday guests.

The Hylton Performing Arts Center officially opened the Education and Rehearsal Wing with a ribbon cutting celebration December 3, 2019. The $13.5 million expansion on George Mason University's Science and Technology Campus, added 17,000 square feet and includes two rehearsal halls, six practice rooms, two classrooms, and two additional lobby spaces, allowing the community to utilize the Hylton Center in an expanded way to educate, rehearse, perform, and collaborate.
It seems that the best things really do happen while you're dancing, or at least they do in the touring production of WHITE CHRISTMAS that's currently at DPAC. The musical is at its very best during its high-energy dance numbers. The show is based on the 1954 holiday classic film starring Bing Crosby, Danny Kaye, Rosemary Clooney, and Vera-Ellen. With music and lyrics by Irving Berlin, the show is a fun Christmas-themed romp with plenty of 1950s nostalgia, beautiful costumes, and great tap dancing.
On December 7 at 7:00pm at Dawson College Theatre, Imago Theatre in association with the Dawson College Peace Centre will present a reading of Colleen Murphy's The December Man with a renowned Canadian creative team to commemorate the 14 lives lost in the Ecole Polytechnique shooting and fundraise for the women's shelter Chez Doris. The December Man focuses on the lives of Jean Fournier, a young engineering student who witnessed the Polytechnique massacre, and his parents, Kathleen and Benoît, as they struggle to cope in the aftermath of a violent hate crime. The December Man is an intimately human story about family, courage, survival, the depths of love and the scar tissue marks of hate.

Florida Repertory Theatre has announced the opening of 'Alabaster' by Audrey Cefaly, as part of a 10-theatre National New Play Network Rolling World Premiere. Chosen from Florida Rep's 2018 PlayLab Festival of New Works, 'Alabaster' plays in the ArtStage Studio Theatre Dec. 20, 2019 to Jan. 26, 2020 with four nearly sold-out previews Dec. 17-19.
