Honolulu Theatre for Youth (HTY) is pleased to announce its 68th season.  The 2022-2023 season is titled E Ho’i Hou: Return Anew and marks HTYʻs post-pandemic return to a full season of offerings.

Darryl Maximilian Robinson, a veteran stage actor and play director, who is The Founder, Artistic Director and Producer of both the multiracial chamber theater, The Excaliber Shakespeare Company of Chicago, and the video and theatre arts events group, The Excaliber Shakespeare Company Los Angeles Archival Project has been named a winner of a 2022 Making The World Happening Award from Allevents.in for his numerous online theatre-related offerings during the past to years of the catastrophic Covid-19 pandemic.

TFANA has extended the run of Alice Childress’s Wedding Band, directed by Awoye Timpo, to May 22. (The production, which began previews April 28—postponed from an original date of April 23 due to two COVID-19 cases—was formerly set to close May 15).

The Wilma Theater finishes its 2021-22 Season with Fairview, the groundbreaking 2019 Pulitzer Prize-winning play by Jackie Sibblies Drury, directed by Pulitzer Prize-winner James Ijames.

The evolution of the American musical has morphed from operetta to Vaudevillian musical revue to the classic  integrated musical comedy. The advent of the jukebox musical began as MAMMA  MIA and ALL SHOOK UP shoehorned popular music into a script to showcase Abba or Elvis Presley’s music into paper-thin plots. Now, for better or worse, the bio-concert emerges, as the slick new touring production of AIN’T TOO PROUD : The Life and Times of THE TEMPTATIONS opened at Shea’s Buffalo Theatre. The music of the Motown wonder group THE TEMPTATIONS is one of the  latest properties to take to the Broadway stage. And since it's debut, other biographical musicals are being given similar treatment, telling the stories of Cher, Tina Turner and Michael Jackson.

Bloomingdale’s has partnered with The Tony and Grammy Award®-winning Best Musical on Broadway, Dear Evan Hansen, for a public service announcement and in-store performance supporting the Child Mind Institute.

Sarah Paulson, Uzo Aduba, Anthony Mackie, Martin Freeman, Nick Robinson, and Hillary Baack will star in a new film adaption of Bruce Norris' Claybourne Park. Tony-nominee Pam MacKinnon is also set to direct the new film. The play premiered on Broadway in 2012, winning the Tony Award for Best Play.

The Late Late Show with James Corden will feature a performance from the North American touring company of Hadestown airing Tuesday night, May 17, 2022, on CBS and streaming on Paramount+. Check local listings for air times.

The American Opera Project announces First Glimpse : Songs from the Great Room, a live concert of World Premiere songs written by the current composers and librettists of Composers & the Voice, the groundbreaking vocal-writing fellowship program that has been the starting point for some of today’s most recognized contemporary opera creators. 

On Saturday, April 30, the Visual Arts Center of New Jersey held its largest fundraising event of the year at Canoe Brook Country Club in Summit. Art & Soul, VACNJ's first in-person gala since 2019, raised a record-breaking $296,000 to support the Art Center's powerful arts programming.

Premera Blue Cross Broadway at The Paramount has announced that single tickets for Hadestown will go on sale to the public on Monday, May 16 at 10am.

The touring Queens will be played by Chlöe Hart (Catherine of Aragon), Jennifer Caldwell (Anne Boleyn), Casey Al-Shaqsy (Jane Seymour), Jessica Niles (Anna of Cleves), Jaina Brock-Patel (Katherine Howard) and Alana M Robinson (Catherine Parr). Grace Melville, Leesa Tulley and Natalie Pilkington (Dance Captain) complete the cast as Alternates, with Super Swing Harriet Caplan-Dean.

Outfest taps some of their most accomplished alumnus and industry leaders as mentors, including showrunners Jaclyn Moore (Dear White People, Queer as Folk), Alvaro Rodriguez (Seis Manos, American Rust), Micah Schraft (Mrs. America), Mikko Alanne (The Long Road Home), alongside writers Eduardo Cisneros, Chuck Hayward, MW Wilson.

The Arden Theatre Company is preparing for the regional premiere of Jocelyn Bioh's School Girls; Or, The African Mean Girls Play, a buoyant and biting comedy that explores the universal similarities (and glaring differences) facing teenage girls across the globe. Directed by Amina Robinson (the Arden's 74 Seconds...To Judgment.), the play will run at the Arden's Arcadia Stage now through June 5, 2022.

Creators and writers Tim Robinson and Zach Kanin bring their distinct comedy style and observational humor to the forefront, continuing to poke fun at life's most bizarre and mundane situations. Akiva Schaffer, Andy Samberg, and Jorma Taccone (The Lonely Island) and Ali Bell for Party Over Here serve as executive producers.
