The Civic Center of Greater Des Moines is scheduled to bring some of Broadway's most acclaimed and loved shows to Iowan audiences during their 2012-2013 season. Shows included in the standard season package include the national tours of LES MISERABLES, WAR HORSE, THE BOOK OF MORMON, JEKYLL & HYDE, and MILLION DOLLAR QUARTET. Tennessee Repertory Theatre will present Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, adapted by Jeffrey Hatched, based on the classic novella by Robert Louis Stevenson. Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde runs October 13 - November 3 at TPAC's Johnson Theater (with preview performances October 11 - 12).

Fair Lawn Recreation Department's resident theatre company, Old Library Theatre, presents Jekyll & Hyde, a gothic musical conceived for the stage by Steve Cuden and Frank Wildhorn. Under the direction of Patrick Stevens, of Dover, and musical direction of Anthony Bevilacqua, of Garfield, Jekyll & Hyde will be performed at the George Frey Center for Performing Arts from October 12-14, 19-21 & 26 and 28, with shows at 8pm on Friday and Saturday and 2pm on Sunday. Aye, Matees! It is so exciting to see the world premiere of a show. I had this opportunity with the opening of Treasure Island, A Musical Adventure at Theatre Three in Port Jefferson, Long Island. This original two-act musical, based on the novel by Robert Louis Stevenson, has a book by Sherman Yellen, Music by Gary William Friedman, and lyrics by Will Holt -- all Tony nominees. Now playing through October 27th, this beautiful up-and-coming production, directed by Jeffrey Sanzel, is in fantastic shape thus far.

Yesterday, August 22, Liz Lochhead launched Poetry in the Persian Tent at the Festival of Spirituality and Peace in Edinburgh, UK, to raise money for Oxfam project Old MacDonald Had a Farm for Africa. In the first of five Poetry in the Persian Tent readings with music, poets Liz Lochhead, John Glenday, Ryan Van Winkle, and Stephanie Green performed their verse accompanied by John Sampson on wind instruments.
