Pasadena Playhouse announced casting today for their upcoming production of Lerner and Loewe's CAMELOT, featuring book and lyrics by Alan Jay Lerner and music by Frederick Loewe. Nine-time Emmy Award-winning director/writer/producer David Lee (co-creator of 'Frasier' and director of the Ovation Award-winning production of Can-Can at Pasadena Playhouse) directs a cast of eight in this timeless tale of passion, desire and betrayal. Based on 'The Once and Future King' by T.H. White, CAMELOT was originally directed and staged by Moss Hart on Broadway in 1960. The musical, which is the first production of the Playhouse's 2010 Season, will play January 8 - February 7, 2010 with the official press opening on Friday, January 15 at Pasadena Playhouse.

The production of THE SOUND OF MUSIC currently playing at the Hobby Center in Houston has made use of their pit in a way that may surprise audiences. Instead of placing the orchestra in the pit, the Hobby Center has instead chosen to pipe in the music, using the pit area to aid in scene changes and allow some of the more intimate scenes to be played more downstage than a pit would have known.
There's a nice 'buzz' generating from a small production of 'I DO! I DO!' in San Diego's Old Globe Theatre, taking place in the new Sheryl and Harvey White Theatre venue. The production happened through an alchemy of perfect timing and availability for everyone involved as Lost in Yonkers, directed by Scott Schwartz was originally scheduled to be the first show in the space. The Old Globe's Louis G. Spisto brought the renovation in on time and in-budget with time to spare and had been talking for some time to both stars, who had expressed interest in the piece, which rarely gets high-profile productions.
